TweetHow To: Stop Rear Deck/ Sunglass Holder Rattle
After recently installing a subwoofer I was able to locate rattles that had been bothering me since I bought the car that were hard to locate while driving.
The rear deck lid is a terrible rattle that I heard every time I hit bumps. Luckily, it's an easy fix. Here is what I did.
Materials:
Big flat head screw driver
Scissors
Air Conditioner Weather Seal
I got the weather seal from Home Depot for about $3.
As you can see it's nice and thick.
You take the seal, cut it to two lengths (one for each side of center tail light) and push it in the best you can with your fingers then jam it further in w/ the screw driver. It fits nice and tight. The goal it to tighten the fit of the rear deck at the rear window and provide separation between the two. The rattle is from the deck hitting he window.
From outside you cannot see it.
For the sunglass holder (since I never use it) I took a piece of the leftover section and cut it to fit in the holder. Closed the lid and it keeps everything tight and eliminates the rattle.
Yeah. That sunglasses holder will snap off if it rattles too much. My Mazda6's holder came off while I was driving because of the rattling. That plastic hook that holds up the holder is pretty easy to break. I had my system in for about 2 months before mine broke, but I also played my system extremely loud and as often as I could.

If I press against the glasses holder while I hear the rattle noise it doesn't stop. I think my rattle may be the power cabling for the dome lights that runs along the roof liner.
It is so annoying, it drives me crazy. I also have sunglasses in there. If anyone finds a way to stop it rattling while still able to have sunglasses in there, please post.
thanks for posting this.. i put foam in the passenger sunvisor extender thingy and it stopped making rattles a little. anyone know how to fix the the outside mirror from ratting? put foam in there too?
Also, has anyone figured out how to stop the seat belts from rattling against the side walls. I have fastened them, which stops them, but for the passenger in the front, it looks stupid to have it fastened all the time.
