i don't see this mod being much better in performance than the stock set up. I understand the air being a little cooler and going straight to the engine but I think the stock intake set up with the air box is good enough for me. It just seems weird to me that you would take the air box out completely and not have the part of the intake by the edge of the hood that catches all the good air hitting straight into the car when driving at faster speeds. Im waiting for them to make a wider or bigger intake opening above the grill. Am i being skeptical or should I really attempt this and give it a try? is it dumb a** proof cuz Im not that great when it comes to engine knowledge.
Its not a better set up. I dont see why they are calling it a "CAI" you took off the pipe where you were getting colder air and threw on a cheap filter in the middle of a hot engine bay. Id say its more of a HAI. The reason you get the sound is because the factory box and air chambers are there to quiet it down, as most people dont like excess engine noise.
It does not give you horsepower, but a nice sound sure. So dont be fooled by this mod, if your looking for gain, dont expect it, if you want a cool sound, then yes do it.
You have to spend the money to get something that works. RRE/RRM knows their junk. You want gain get something like theirs.
I made the mod and would agree... ifs for sound, not much else. Per the OBD info, no additional hp. The intake temp did drop but only when running around 60mph or faster. I aftributed this to air being rammed into the stock pickup and being forced into the box where the cone filter was resting. But this. Might be the same with the stock filter installed.
This looks like an audio/visual mod more than anything. Still, I kinda like it, and the price is nice. First mod, here I come!

I just did this today with a Spectre filter and it sounds awesome! $24 at O'Reilly's, but I also used the stock tube and just zip-tied it down to the box to reduce vibration.
