well i just did this mod i was debating on weather there were any differences in the open cone filter or the closed cone filter. i got the closed one but was considering takin it back to get the open ended one. Thanks
has anyone reset their computer after doin this just wondering cause idk if im gettin any better mpg's it actually seems like im getting worse. I'll let you know once i fill up again and i check my gas mileage
Hey guys. The reason you guys are seeing better gas mileage is because u guys are sucking in hot air from under the hood into the intake. Do a google search. Its the same thing as a Hot Air Intake. It improves mpg but decreases hp so that's why I went back to factory set up.
Did you guys feel/see a decrease in hp after this mod - I want to do it nut don't want to loose any hp
well you deff wont loss power... your increasing the air flow its not a 10 hp increase but maybe 2 or 3 MAX and it sounds alot better... it just so happened when i did mine my radio stopped working for i drove around with a radio for 2 weeks... and it sounded soo much better
Doesn't the cars computer and related sensors monitor the air flow along with temp and fuel to give the engine the best overall performace? By allowing the engine to breathe better, with less air flow restrictions, does the ecu not know this and compensate air to fuel ratio to stock setting. I understand the sound of rushing air is kool but I can't see gaining any HP or MPG.
Just want more feedback before I try this mod - wanted to get a TK cai but shipping to South Africa is almost going to be more than the kit.
Want to know if anybody have used this mod long term and how is the ECU coping, is it getting to hot or is it fine.
Thanks
any feedback please - want to spend my money on either this mod or a K&N panel replacement - but I am more keen on going with this option - just want to make sure it is safe.
I've been driving around with this for awhile now, about 4 months. Sound is great, actually turns heads! Other than that, it did increase gas mileage and throttle response. Best mod you can do for $20. Really safe.
K&N drop in filter is what I have, I paied ~80.00 CDN, as I got it summer last year and no retail stores had the aftermarket filter yet and I had to buy it off ebay + shipping.
It's great I wash it about once every 2 months.
A few more HP than factory, a lot better air flow, and saves me money in long run.
I'm thinking about selling my drop in but only because I want to upgrade to a CAI, I'm in no rush though as my car is still under warranty.
Oh yah, it sounds slightly different than factory, but not anything close to a cone filter or intake.
I just did this mod. Best twenty bucks I ever spent!
The filter is a Spectre Performance P3 Cone Filter, part number 9132. AutoZone has these filters for $19.99.
It took some work to get it on to the stock tube, but after it's over the little nubs, it's easy to get it in the right place.
The only thing I'm worried about is the seal around the stock intake tube. I might go back and wrap it in electrical tape just in case.
It sounds good, no, great, and throttle response is better. Noticeably more than what a K&N drop in did. And it sounds, as others have said, like a mild mannered V8! Not ricey at all.
Also, does anybody know the ID of the stock tube? Maybe there is a filter that will fit inside so we can use the factory clamp... Just a thought.

Update: So I have had this on since Sep 29. No Problems, Filter looks great, sounds great and the car is running fine. I have it the same way in my original post, page 7.
MPG is lower than stock setup. Like I said before, driving it the same as with a stock setup. Still, lower MPG. However, over time the throttle response has really picked up. It is a good mod. Not really much HP or Torque gain or loss, if any. But the sound just sounds....right. Like this is the way it should sound. Now the sound matches the looks. lol
