I'm a firm believer in less is more when it comes to dressing tires. I have an issue with people who cake all kinds of product on tires and then ask how to get them clean and keep them looking new.
I've used a ton of products on tires and most of them do look good... for a short time. However, they quickly start to pick up grime/dirt and go down hill fast. People then need to use harsh chemicals to remove them. This makes the matter even worse as the natural protectant is removed from the tire and they tend to age and look brown.
I use Megauirs Hyperdressing. The problem with this is that it's (usually) not available locally. A gallon is around $35. But it is mixed 3:1 and and 4:1 depending on how much shine you want. So it can easily be $10/gallon. There are also other products that I like... Lexol Vinylex and 303 Aerospace Protectant. This can be found locally. The nice thing about these dressings is that they can be washed off with soap and water. When I take my dusty car to the self serve car wash and use the wand (water only) I can see some of the product washing off. But some of it remains on the tire and looks just as good as when it was first applied. No sticky gel crap on the tire.
I've attached some photos showing how I apply the product. I _lightly_ spray the tire. Read that again. The dressing then migrates around the tire and covers it all. I don't wipe it off. I allow it to spread and dry on the tire.
(the photos and video were taken with my phone)
You will see how long a little dressing would last.
Last is a video of the application. I'm applying it to an untreated tire that has been washed with soap and water only.
