Default Fuel Injector ticks

A few of you have mentioned that you have some ticking, chatter, and diesel sounding noise. What ever you call it.

This is the noise that comes through even though you stayed with the Kia/Hyundai Mobis oil filter, using 5w20/0w20 and the engine is warmed up. It's a noise that's developed after a year or so of driving.

What some of us has figured is that it is the injectors they are loud. But they didn't start that way. I started to do some thinking and digging and remembered that newer cars have "Smart" injectors. They actually report their estimated flow rate and duty cycle. It's actually provided via feedback via various sensors and the fuel table in the ECU. So they ain't that smart but they are a hell more precise.

If you have gummed/dirty injectors the ECU will extend the duty cycle.

Here's the fix:

Clean your injectors and run a top engine cleaner/ lube.

You'd probably read about how to use Seafoam. It's a triple threat if you use it correctly. Gas,oil and Intake. However for our cars you don't really need the triple threat and it's lacking in the top engine lube.

What we need is a product with a high concentration of P.E.A. or Polyether Amine. This is a chemical developed by Chevron. But a bunch of products now contain it. It's the best detergent for fuel systems.

So the products that I would recommend would be:
Techron
Redline SI-1
and Gumout Regain.

These 3 contain the highest P.E.A. content at the best price.

However to really help with the noise you need a nice upper lube package. Lucus has a product for this but doesn't clean as well.

Redline SL-1 and Regain have got the cleaning and the lube part down pat. At ~$10 a bottle it's worth a shot for stopping the injector tick. Follow their instructions for initial cleaning you can choose to use maintenance dosages for Redline but I think that's excessive.

It stopped it for me. I ran it 2 weeks before my oil change so any blow by will be in the outgoing oil.

GUMOUT® - Regane® Complete Fuel System Cleaner
Red Line Synthetic Oil - Gasoline Fuel Additives - SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner

The injector tick has been there since the development. While some OE's bury the injectors our's are right there in the open.

In regards to "injector cleaning" it has been proven by many tests (some recent ones in Europe they can be read at Liqui Moly's site or now called Lubro Moly) or one can talk with an injector company such as RC Engineering, that there is "no noticeable" or measured differnce (flow testing) after using injector cleaners. The only way is sending them in for a heated ultra-sonic bath.
