Apparently the wiring harness and circuitry open the lead to the start position on the keyswitch. I too have turned it that far while it's running, and nothing happens. You have to put it to the run position, and then hit the brake pedal. Only then does the system disengage.
I have this remote start and would also recommend it. I do have a question for those who already have it.
If you turn your interior lights to the off position then lock the door with the remote. Do your turn signal lights flash to let you know it is locked? If I turn my interior lights to off, the lights on the outside of the car do not flash. When I turn them back to door, the lights on the outside flash. Anyone else experience this?
Hmmmm....I will need to further investigate things then. I just engaged the starter this morning accidently while the car was already running. Made that nasty sound we all know.
Is it really that hard for you to not turn the key that far? Doing it won't damage anything as long as you don't sit there and crank it for minutes and as long as you don't do it often.
Most if not all remote starts won't have the relay set to keep this from happening. I wouldn't let this stop me from buying this. Just be mindful of what you are doing.
I did it by accident the first time obviously. The issue is that I have teenagers that will be driving it and we all know how careless they can be. Especially if the car is remotely running and they jump in a try to start it again.....I admit I have done this on my other car more than a few times since I can barely tell it's running due to it's smooth/quiet idle.
Most cars have this feature as part of the OEM wiring and to leave it off is just plain being cheap. Cost to factory has to be almost non existent to have an ignition work properly. I am interested to know IF this alarm/remote starter includes some change to the wiring to eliminate this concern. Most aftermarket remote start systems have this included.
To tell you the truth I did it once and had no sound or anything. I didn't even realize I was doing it until I looked down and saw the RPM was up already. Are you sure these cars don't have it?
Just confirmed. I figured I'd get you all a definitive answer at the risk of shredding teeth. .
The starter DOES NOT ENGAGE when the key is turned to start while in remote start mode. I turned the key and held it and nothing happened. Starter did not engage. Hope that clarifies it.
I'd imagine it would work from Forte to Forte no matter the location. It is a KIA OEM product and is warranteed by KIA. It clearly states in the warranty info that is packaged with it that it is warranteed whther installed by a dealer or non dealer. The none dealer installation warranty actually extends beyond the dealer installed which I didn't understand but am OK with.
duleyboy, I have a manual trans (lx) forte, did you find a harness adapter from compustar for your install? I have an aftermarket remote start sys, and a harness would help. Also looking for info on wiring, I dont have a shop / service manual w/ any nice diagrams :-/ I see some koup pdfs online but nothing sedan...

Note: When dropping the car off for service, leave the key fob. The key alone won't disarm the security system. The dealer called me and wasn't too happy lol. Never even thought about it.
