Default Switched Outlets

My 2010 Forte has two 12-volt outlets in the center console. Both of them are switched, so they are dead when the ignition is off. As a result, I can't charge my cell phone while I run into the store or get gas. Does anybody know if there is a simple, do-it-yourself solution to this? For instance, if I could move the wire that goes to one of the outlets to an unswitched terminal in the fuse box, that would be great. Thanks.

Just go in the fuse box and run a jumper over to the fuse for the outlets, from a constant on power.

I just can't go stock, if it's 2wd lower it if it's 4wd then lift it.

Well, if you go this route be sure the circuit you jumper from has a wire w/ large enough gauge to handle the load or you could watch you wires burn up.

If it were me I'd tap right off of the battery connection in the fuse box under the hood and run a separate FUSED wire thru the firewall and tap directly into one or both of the outlets.

You will need to remove the center console to do this. Check Kia Global Information System (KGIS) for the instructions on how to remove it. It involves removing 2 plastic panels, 2 screws, and 2-10mm bolts.

He wants to do a quick job. Just run the wire from the side of the fuse that has no power when you pull out the fuse. That way if the draw is to much it will just pop the fuse. Tap into the starter fuse, that will handle the draw and it won't be in use when the car is off.

Do it the right way or don't do it IMO. You need to be sure the wire you are using to power is a large enough gauge. If it's not and the fuse is a large one (as outlets usually are) you will burn the wire and the fuse will not cut the circuit. Spending the extra 30 min to do it the right way in the beginning will save you time in the end.

He wants it to work when the car is off LOL. Otherwise, what would the point be?

I agree with you. I was just telling him the cheapest and fastest way to do it, not the best or right way. Lol.

PS : and I was say hook it to the starter constant on, you know the bigger wire. That way he would have power when the car was off, but would have a fuse in the line.

can't the fuse just be turned? I haven't looked, but my last 2 cars had this feature. the fuse had two slots. One was 90 degrees of the other to make the power outlet constant.
