Good find and excellernt price, my CAI cost me $70 to make. Is it a S/S pipe or is it Silcon ? You will probably need a valve connected to S/S pipe so to mount the breather pipe. If you look at my pics you will see what I mean.
You will love the extra get up and go and response not to mention the nice little growl

You use them when the intake does not have a PCV hookup on it. Like in this picture of mine:

this is my SRI...I let the original airbox to avoid domage to the CPU in reason of the heat.

@wingzero: but what exactly does the hose do other then recirculate air.... is there any performance advantage?

no it vents harmful gases from the crank case (positive crank ventilation valve)
either a breather or a tube hooked back into the intake system is a must.

yes, thankya.
Catch can because a mist of oil is often also blown by piston rings from the oil ring and then recirculated back into the intake system via the pcv valve. A catch can and breather stops this.

and "harmful" because the gases are "blow-by from the combustion chamber, if the high pressurized gas was not permitted to escape pressure would build up in the crank.

Question Breather tube....in ??out???

The breather tube on these engines are sucking air in...you can feel the slight suction covering the tube with your finger at idle. Also on the Techinfo site at KIA the diagram showing the air flow pattern for the EVAP system shows fresh air going IN through this tube not out...leading to the need for a mini air breather.

On my old 01' Elantra a tube like this right next to the PCV valve (old 2.0 Beta engine) definitely blew sh*t out into the snorkel filling it with oil. But this engine (Theta) doesn't seem to follow that same air flow pattern.

Soooo how hard would it be to extend this SRI with some Spectre parts to get it behind the fog light?

Yes, I know, NECRO!

not hard, you'd probably just need a 3'' rubber coupling and two hose clamps.
rig something up - you may need to extend it down further aswell but it'd be pretty close just below the battery and behind the front bumper there.

just be sure to have enough support so that the filter and pipe doesnt wear down on the clamps and connectors.
