Default 2011 Kia Optima

First Drive: 2011 Kia Optima — Autoblog

I wouldn't get it because i don't need a big car. For families though...this is a no-brainer. It's a great looking car but still conservative, not like the new sonata where in 10 years you're like "what the hell were they thinking".

Anyone that looks for a new mid-size and doesn't take a serious look at this is just stupid in my opinion.

as I posted someplace else I'm really curious about what motor they choose to run this machine..
V6 or v8?
I'd love it if they put a v8 in this car since they already have one they could use.
I'm just dreaming out loud thou

Neither. 4 cylinder.
But that 4 cylinder has more power than the previous V6.

It's the same powerhouse as the new sonatas.

The base models get the 2.4L GDI engine with about 200HP

the upper models get the 2.0L Turbo which puts out close to 300HP

A hybrid version is also coming down the pipe....i think that might be 2012 though. It'll be kia's first hybrid

300 HP?! WHAT!

Please tell me the turbocharger will be similar to the Genesis Coupe where you can play with it and make the turbo more powerful.

300 HP Turbo ahhh...

IIRC, it's 274hp and it's going to be used in a bunch of their upcoming vehicles..e.g. sportage, optima, maybe others

Would LOVE a forte AWD koupe w/ 274hp

I loved the concept design much more. I thought they were changing these to numbers now like K5, K6 and such?

In Korea this is the K5. It's actually outselling the new hyundai sonata over there and if Kia keeps rolling i see the new Optima outselling Accords/Camry's in 3-4 years.

The old optima (magentis here) was a decent car but noone took it seriously because it had very bland styling. When people drive by a dealer and see this it might make them at least think about taking one for a drive....then when you drive one all prejudices are thrown out the window and you're like "wow, this is a nice car"...i know that's what it was like when i drove my first forte.

Oh I agree, the civic would not be much of a fight even in si version,
and the wrx would be a fun race if we had that kind of hp and awd.

I just have a purple passion against hondas Lol

anyway back on track.

I really like the optima but honestly I'm suprised they did not just bring the k7 here.
seems kind of silly but nobody asked me lol.
of course the k7 has more of a sporty sedan vibe.

seems the optima is running the other side of the fence with practical sedan.
From what it sounds like its going to be a nice car, I'd test drive one just to see how that little turbo'd 4banger ran
