I know we have a few Australian members on this site, and I was hoping to pick your brains about Australia. I've had a job possibility arise and was looking to get a no holds barred assessment on the current state of your country. What do you like about it? What do you hate about it? If you can compare/contrast things to the US, what would they be? Do you have any warnings or advice for someone who may be relocating there? What cities are better than others, and why? Etc?
Any insight is appreciated, but I'm really looking for honest, straight forward reviews. I have a few friends that have visited Australia before, but unfortunately the only response I get from them is, "It's awesome!". I'm looking for something a little more in depth. I'm not looking for anything sugar coated, I just really want an opinion from someone who actually lives there.
Thanks for any help!! If you feel more comfortable PM'ing me with a response, that is perfectly fine too.

the country in general is a great place. the economy is more stable at the moment than America. house prices are more than America. same as cars. the people are mostly nice people. politicts is more of a joke than a seriousness here. they do what they want whether we like it or not. and there's plent of local places to go and see that are quite amazing. the traffic in peek hours is a bit daunting in major cities. but not too bad in smaller ones. it all just depends where you job is situated and where you will be living. : ) that's it in a nutshell. where I live is pretty awesome. beaches. nice country scene. vineyards and not to far fRom Sydney. and that's all fairly local to me.
Don't have a specific place narrowed down yet, I'll know more when I hear back about it. Just want to get a general impression of the country. Never been there personally, but I have NEVER heard anything bad about it. Which is more than I can say about most places nowadays. What is a decent yearly salary over there? It sounds like cost of living is a little more than here, so I don't really know what I expect pay wise. What is middle class roughly?

middle class would be about 1000 a week, after tax. if your renting in a smaller city rents about 400 a week for a three bedroom. houses are selling upwards of 300,000 and that's out of the hub. if u move to Sydney and that you can pay nearly a million for an apartment. but that's crazy living. definatrly find out more info. coz there's no use looking an Sydney if the jobs in Perth or something like that. may I ask what the job is?? there's about 5-6% unemployment rates at present too. so heaps of jobs getting round. especially in the mining sector. you just gotts have experience for most positions.
any questions just hit me up. but keep in mind I've only ever lived here. and only holidayed to Italy once and that's it for overseas. and I'm only 19.
I live in Sydney & it is Prob a little more expensive to live compared to other states! But Sydney has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, I live here & Sydney harbour still takes my breath away. I have not been to the states but imagine our countries have alot in common, we seem to look at America like a big brother I guess, we have adopted alot of your customs and celebrations ie: holloween! It's not as big as there but growing year by year! We watch your sports and know your big name stars! I have done quite a bit if traveling around world and would not swap my country for any other! If u get the opportunity to come u will not be dissapointed!! Price of living a little higher but so are wages I'd imagine! And our dollar has been worth more than yours for around a year! Any questions is be happy to answer for u cheers

I live 30 min out of Sydney and love it. Cost of living is def more but our wages are much higher. I have just got back from the States after visiting my brother who lives in Santa Barbera and loved how cheap everything was but I would def not live any where else.
all depends on which city you're going to be living in, each has their positives and negatives, find out which city you might be moving to and we could be of more help to you mate good luck with the move
Nothing more yet. The basics are the Australian Army is recruiting from US Military and I expressed interest in possibly serving down there. No idea where I'd be stationed though. Haven't heard anything back from the yet...

I think you misunderstood, I wouldn't be with the US Military anymore. I'd be serving the Australian Army. They offer dual citizenship, and it would be cool to serve with an Ally country.

well either way. you will love the place here. its a fantastic country in whole. and the culture isn't too different. most things here are a watered down version of the American way of life. your like a big brother to us. and if its with the army then you will see some of our country. : ) I'd jump at the opportunity if I was you. similar culture, same language and you'll be paid to be here. not much you can lose out on.
