Just be sure to use the epoxy type repair. The body filler won't work well on adhering to plastic and wont flex well unless on a very rigid area.

1000-1500 grit is good if your buffing afterword, but for any sort of primer and more so bondo work you need heavier sandpaper to give it something good to bit into. I would go no more than 320 for the area in which you are applying the bondo, then at least a 320 finish before spraying the primer, and then 400(wet)-600(dry) on the primer before any base coat.

Using the spray cans is a cheap method but dont expect a super good match or for that spot to hold up as long as the rest of the bumper. But it will do you well for a while.
