Tweethow to check engine coolant and how to fill it up?
how to check engine coolant and how to fill it up?
also is it the 50/50 antifreeze that goes into there? lol sorry for asking so much, just want to know how to maintain my vehicle
This information should be in your owners manual. Have you read it? You should.
#1 there should be your overflow. I'm not 100% sure if the Forte works on an overflow or a pressurized system. Make sure its between the min and max lines and you should be okay. It's not ideal to simply add coolant to a system. If your adding you should be bleeding.

a little simpler on the terms please since im really new to cars and yeah, where do i add it? the coolant or the radiator? also not sure if im just not seeing it or my coolant reservoir seems empty or just pretty low, it should be a green/blueish color right? and is it the 50/50 antifreeze that goes into there? so sorry lol just wanna make sure im gonna do the right thing
I'm not totally sure how I can use that in any simpler terms than I already have... But here Goes:
Don't use 50/50. Get pre mixed coolant from the dealership. If you do decide to mix coolant yourself, do me a favor and make sure you use distilled water.
^All this is straight from the owners manual which I highly recommend you read.

did read it and im just confused, lol again im sorry
Ok, you fill up the reservoir. If you need to bleed the coolant system take it to a shop and get it done. If you want to tackle it yourself you will need to learn terms and such so that you don't make a mistake or hurt yourself. But you should be able to fill the reservoir between the min and full lines while the engine is cold.

guess i have to just bring it to the dealer, since i dont think im seeing any color from the reservoir(antifreeze should have some kind of bright color right?)
i just got this used car like 2or3 weeks earlier btw
It is pretty simple bud. If you just want to add coolant than purchase a premixed 50/50. When you open the hood you will see the coolant tank behind the radiator (#1 in the first diagram). The coolant may be red/green/ or blue depending on if it was ever changed and brand used.
Not to be rude, but if you're not smart enough to check your coolant, you should leave any and all maintenance to a professional. This includes modifications.
I hope you can at least check your tire pressure...
Coolant can be any color. Get a flashlight and shine it at the reservoir. It's pretty easy to see if there's anything in it.

i have an antifreeze from the previous car that we owned, and its kinda yellowish and yeah its 50/50. it did have a warning that it contains ethyl glyc. and manual says dont mix antifreeze with methanol/alcohol so im really stuc if ethal glyc. is also considered as alcohol lol
Use green stuff only, if you can help it dont mix coolant. The dealer coolant is not pre-mixed, it is sraight.
If your overfill resivour is below the "low" mark or line then add some coolant to the resivour. If it is empty then youll need to check your radiator. If you fill it to below the "full" or "top" line and a week later you find it low again, you may want to check for coolant leaks.
