TweetCreaking/Clicking noises from the dash, 2012 Forte
I know there are some people here that have this problem, the random noises seem pretty widespread and I would like to know if anyone has it and had it taken care of by the dealer. Also is there anyone without the noise problems? I just want to know if all fortes are affected or if its only some.
My noise isn't so much a rattle, its more of a clicking. It happens when I hit bumps, even the smaller bumps on the pavement, sometimes clicks when I turn or even just driving on straight road. Is this something the dealer can fix, or is this something they are going to claim that they can't reproduce the problem?
BTW: Sorry about the name of that website. Its not mine...
In my 2010 SX Sedan I had a rattle that drove me crazy that seemed to come from behind the gauge cluster. I was always driving with one hand while pushing and pulling on the trim pieces trying to find it, but couldn't.
Then I stared to think outside of the box or squeak as it may be.....one day as the rattle/squeak was driving me crazy, I punched the headliner over my head.....and the sound suddenly stopped until I hit a few bumps, then it started again. To make a long story short it was a combination of the little plastic microphone moving + the left corner of the headliner around the sunroof. I shimmed them with rubber pieces, stuffed foam up inside of the microphone hole....and voila...!!! Rattle/squeaks gone...!!!
Now I would swear on a stack of Bibles that the noise was coming from behind the gauge cluster, but the sound was bouncing from the cieling and reflecting off of the gauge cluster in front of me.....
In your case, I can definitely hear the noises....it sounds as though something...a wire harness / other piece of something is hitting up under the dash center. If it's still under warranty have them take out the center trim and radio and drive around for a few days yourself. Have someone else drive and reach around in there while they hit some bumps...see what you find. If you can show the dealer exactly what's rattling or that you're willing to futz with it, this shouldn't be such a big request. Check above the car....the headliner....sunglass case..... anything else that might create the sound from above.
If they are not willing to do this, make an appointment with a Kia Regional Rep. and play him your video...give him a pair of f**G headphones so he doesn't say he can't hear it, and tell him to direct the dealer to keep it until it's fixed........and by the way.....that includes a loaner...!!!

It is alright, this video is my.
This noise is f annoying and what it's worst is that every time I bring it to the dealer it does not do it. In the very beg I thought that were the clips of the mounting fascia for the clock ( see pictures below), but now I'm thinking that it is the clock. Finally since I have brought it 3 times to the dealer and they can't figure this out or reproduce the noise, maybe I will call a friend and take it off again and check it out myself. Will give you an update soon.
Until then, good luck

I took my car to the dealer. They couldn't reproduce the problem(of course, how can you not hear that rattle and clicking) . It was also a warm day. It happens more on cold days. Recently I observed that the noises get worse when you turn the heat on, in fact much worse. If anyone else can reproduce this effect that would be great. I'm going to try putting tissue in the microphone area to see if it stops. Some days its not so bad, today it drove me nuts. Its making me more and more angry. My car only has 4000 miles on it, this should not be happening. I may take it back sometime in the few upcoming weeks.
Anyone have any updates/news on this issue? Even if you have the issue and it annoys you, let your voice be heard. I'm waiting for spring break to bring the car back to the dealer. Hopefully they catch the problem. They seem to be willing to allow me to ride in the car with the technicians, this way I can point it out.
Could something have gotten past your cabin air filter, especially if you've changed it recently? If so, something could have fallen through and gotten blown somewhere inside the plastic ducting for the air distribution....
I changed an cabin air filter a while back in a little suzuki I have and a leaf fell into the fan..(right below the filter).....wow did that sucker make some weird noises in there.....had to drop the fan out to remove it.

Just a thought....???
Nope. This is definitely sound coming from the materials used on the dash. I havent changed the air filter.
I just got my new Forte about a week ago, and with just 300kms on it I too am getting this clicking/popping sound from the dash. It only happens when it's cold outside and so that poses an issue if I were to bring it to the dealership because once sunlight hits the car, the noise goes away.
I am curious as to whether or not this is a similar problem to one that my sister and my dad had on their Mazda 3 and 5. Their cars made a similar noise in the cold, and it turned out to be the base of the windshield/cowl that was hitting up against the windshield (thread here: Windshield/Dash/Cowl Rattle). I noticed that if I tap the black plastic that's around the windshield wiper area of my Forte, it makes a similar, sharp, hard-object-on-hard-object noise, and when I get someone to do that and I sit inside, it sounds almost like the dashboard clicking. I'm going to try and wedge a piece of very thin rubber or plastic into the cowl to see if that'll make the clicking noise go away. I'll report back once I do!
An update: I wasn't able to wedge anything inbetween the cowl and the windshield so I applied some silicone sealant along the edges. It stopped the "hard-object-on-hard-object" noise when I tapped on it with my fingers, but unfortunately, driving late last night with the temperature around 0C, the clicking noise was still there. So either I didn't apply enough sealant to stop it, maybe the cowl needs more padding underneath or it isn't the cowl at all. Oh well, the hunt continues.
A member hear told me that he thinks it is the little plastic flap in your arm rest area. I popped the flap, tightened the screw, haven't heard anything since lol
