Default Counterfeit Airbags in 2010-2011 Fortes??

Hey guys is this true. I heard that the 2010-2011 Fortes had counterfeit airbags installed. Is this true??? Yeah they are some counterfeit airbags out of china. Thank god the 2012 Fortes are not on the list. There are alot of Auto manufacturers affected by this. It is not just Kia and Hyundai. Anyone else hear about this???

The only article I've read about counterfeit airbags was regarding cars that have had their airbags replaced by third party shops in the last few years. It wouldn't make much sense for this to be a problem on new vehicles as I'm sure Kia purchases directly from Delphi, TRW or some other big manufacturer.

Simple thing to do. Don't drive to get yourself into an air bag situation.

But to answer your question I have not heard of this.

Here is what everyone is talking about - directly from NHTSA.

I fail to see how how this is a "forte" issue... EDIT: (if you are the first owner, and havent replaced the air bags)

"NHTSA has become aware of a problem involving the sale of counterfeit air bags for use as replacement parts in vehicles that have been involved in a crash."

"Consumers whose vehicles have been in a crash and had their air bags replaced by a repair shop that is not part of a new car dealership within the past three years or who have purchased a replacement air bag online should contact the call center that has been established by their auto manufacturer to have their vehicle inspected at their own expense and their air bag replaced if necessary"

@ anthony, i guess what they're saying is that counterfeit airbags are available for the forte, so they could be/have been used instead of the real deal

If you've ever had them replaced then yes. The article says that the counterfeit bags ONLY APPLY to those who have had their factory ones replaced. If you have your factory air bags still, then you are fine. If you had them replaced, then drive to the dealer and have them checked... case closed.

Yeah i know, wasn't trying to argue lol. I was just saying it applies to the forte because the counterfeits are available for the forte, if you had a different car not on the list then it wouldn't apply at all.

There is no hate when someone comes in trolling incorrect info.

As the bolded type in the quote above suggested that 2010-2011 Forte's had counterfeit airbags installed (as in from the factory)....was a complete misinformation.

looked to me like he had heard something, stated what he had heard (even though it was not entirely correct) and then asked for confirmation or more information. anyways im not going to sit around arguing about a thread that doesn't really impact me. ill spend my time debating on whether or not to get those braces TK just posted about
