What's going on with the Kia Dealers?

I just checked the 2 local Kia dealers where I bought my 2011 Forte and my 2015 Forte. Between them, they have 6 Forte5's for sale and NONE of them are 2017's! One is a 2015! Of course, none have a manual transmission. Obviously, no one is buying these cars. They are good cars, reasonably priced, reliable and good looking. Why no takers? I see plenty of Mazda 3 hatches, Focus hatches and Golf/GTi's on road, but no Forte's.

On a separate note, I went to buy a rear wiper blade at the dealer. He didn't have any in stock! I ended up ordering it on line. Now, in my opinion, the minimum parts a dealer should have for every car they sell are filters, plugs, brake pads and wiper blades. If they can't manage that, they should lose their dealership franchise.

OK, rant finished.

I've noticed the same thing. No 2017s at my local dealer either. They seem obsessed with selling more used cars than new.

looked for a 2017 F5 SX for a couple of months before i bought the 2016... the only one i could find was in NY, and it was not fully loaded... there are 3 Kia dealers in decent driving distance and they still do not have the 2017 F5 SX at all... only LX and maybe a couple EX...

They must not make any money on the Fortes. Used cars and CUV's are probably the money makers.

My dealer has 14 Forte5s. 13 of them are '17 LX automatics and just one 16 SX manual.

LX and EX hatches aren't that rare here. Doing pretty well for how little marketing they get really.

Part of the problem I think is Kia marketing they just do not seem interested in promoting the forte for some reason, The SX forte5 is definitely a rare beast and has been for a long time. When I bought my 2015 SX premium my dealer in Ottawa found one in Toronto and had it flat bedded to Ottawa. He told me at that time there were only four in the province of Ontario.

Pat.

When I registered both my '15 and '16 SX, I was the only one in the county with either one, at the time.

Yeah only place I really see the Forte promoted is on their own FB page...and who follows that and isn't already a Kia owner?

I think it's a regional thing but I do have a friend that work for one of the local KIA dealerships near me and he was telling me the Forte does not sell well basically because the base model Optima is priced so closely with the Forte most customers choose the Optima over it

My local dealer in the Chicagoland area is pushing the new 17 Forte S and SX as well as the Soul. Both of the Forte's are on the showroom floor. One of which has upgraded wheels and tires. They had two EX forte 5 and a bunch of LX and EX model forte sedans on the lot. In fact they added black wheels and tires to the 17 S sedan.

I saw way more pre-owned of the Rio and Optima than any other vehicle in the lot. Other than pre-owned, the Soul is this dealers #1 selling vehicle.

I snapped a pic of the 17 Forte S while I was again having service done for the "never ending saga of door handles problems" with my 15 Forte 5. Meh.

The Forte in the US has had its best sales year ever in 2016 by exceeding 100k units for the first time - 103,292, that's a massive increase over 2015 at 78,919 units. So its been on a steady increase whereas many of the competition in this segment has been decreasing.
That is more than the Mazda 3, which in 2016 sold 95,567 units in the US. They peaked back in 2012 selling 123,361 units.

The Forte will never reach the volume of the Corolla or Civic as they do not have that kind of manufacturing capacity or that large of a dealer network. However, the Corolla peaked back in 2006, but the Civic peaked in 2016, and the Focus in 2012.

In Canada 2016 was there best year for the Forte since 2012.

I've seen more new Civic 5 doors in the last few weeks than I see Forte5's in a year - from the 2010 model on up. We sometimes poke fun when we see another 5 door and say "Look !! There's the OTHER one !!" lol. Maybe is they start advertising more now that people are interested in the Civic 5 door, it may be a revelation to some that Kia makes a 5 door hatch. We constantly have people ask what make it is. I even have people ask what make my Sonata is. Probably stuck on what Hyundai and Kia used to be.

And yes, they do make more on used cars than new ones.
