The 2011 model is getting a six speed auto trans. If the problem is in the software code, as many of us believe it is, the problem may be there or it may not. Guess if the new transmission uses some of the code from the five speed there could be a problem.
You guys are scaring me away from Kia. Sounds like they've perfected the exterior, but there are issues with frame flex/strength and significant transmission problems. I was planning to see a dealer today to possibly purchase (haven't settled on EX or SX), but now I'm thinking it may be safer to remove Kia from consideration...
That 100,000 mile warranty doesn't mean much if you're missing work frequently for nitnoid issues...

Go to any car forum and you're most likely going to find problems people are having. I've noticed there's less "chatter" about this tranny slip problem on the forte forums lately -- although it might not be resolved for some of the owners, hopefully that is a good sign.
ForteSX2.4, I know problems will happen with any vehicle (especially my 2001 Chevrolet Impala, sold last month.) I just don't want to get into something cheap that is not going to last for that 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. That warranty is no good if the rest of the car starts to suck so badly that I want to hock it at 40,000 miles because of a problem Kia can't find.
Has anyone heard of a resolution on the newer '10 SX models?
I have been taking note when I have an issue with the transmission slip. This weekend while going up a hill on about 50% throttle from second the third the transmission went to shift, did not catch and the engine just revved to 5K and then jerked into the next gear hard.
My wife is taking it in today, the issue seems to be getting worst and we would really like a well functioning car.

I think there is less chatter about the tranny problem because nothing significant has happened. I don't believe anyone's tranny has been 'fixed'. The only fix I'm aware of that has solved the problem is a transmission replacement.
I just dropped mine off at the dealer for them to do more testing on Tuesday. They're going to check voltages in the ECU and TCU and the solenoids in the transmission. They'll probably do some other stuff too that they haven't told me about. Every time I take it in the tech communicates with the engineers at Kia Headquarters to get the next plan of attack. They'll either get it fixed eventually or give me a new transmission. I'd rather have a fix.
I have 2010 forte koup sx ( 2.4L) production date: 07/09... boought @ 41kms had shift problem since day1. I had same problem with 2005 spectra5 Sle (2.0L) same bad shift between 2nd-3rd. tranny still lasted to 160kms
Yes, on my 2.4L it happens quite a bit under light throttle when using the Shiftronic when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. This has always been a problem with my car as far as I can remember. It's extremely annoying, I feel like I'm damaging the car or something. Is there anything that can be done about that?

i belive it has to do with production date. mine is labeled as an aug. 09. but like i said i had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with my 05 spectra5, i always thought it was a glitch they hadnt worked out yet. and in stead of fixing the excisting 5speeds they just upgraded to a 6speed. im almost contiplating printing this thread an taking it to my dealership....
2010 SX koup, not sure of the production date. Is this the problem people are talking about? I'll be slowing down for a light, light turns green before i come to a stop... if i'm too hard on the accelerator, the shift is rather... rough... there's a delay where nothing happens for a split second, then the car suddenly seems like it remembers what the gas pedal is for and wants to convince you it was paying attention the entire time. reminds of the way a horse would react if you snuck up behind it and slapped it on the ass.
Always had the same thing happen in my old 05 Neon, but no one ever said it was a problem.

My #1 isn't any sillier than half the "#3 in NA"s on here.
See... I have absolutely ZERO problems wit my five speed. One of my best friends bought an 11 SX after he drove mine. And I prefer my 5 speed over his 6 speed automatic.
