What up Fella's! Looks like I may need to get a new engine for my 2013 Kia Forte. Long story short, wife bought it, it died and now we've got some heavy work ahead of us.
So I'm wondering is it possible to pull the engine without dropping it out of the bottom of the car? The only directions I've found so far involve removing the subframe and lifting the car which I can't do.
Having never had to remove an engine from a Forte...I'd have to go with what the factory service manual says...Lift the car. I hope I don't ever have to...
Others have worked on their engine...hopefully they'll "chime" in.
What exactly is the problem? Did she not change the oil, or is was there some other issue?
I've not had to do anything except motor and tranny oil changes on mine, so I can't speak from experience on engine removal. But I'd be surprised if the engine/tranny couldn't be pulled up and out with suitable hoist equipment. There would of course be lots of stuff to disconnect or remove first, but I can't imagine anything that would make that method impossible.
She changed the oil.... but not too frequent enough.
She changed the oil, always chose the cheap stuff, and probably didn't get it done frequently enough. On top of that there are slim to no receipts so Kia won't do it under warranty. We are actually looking at possibly doing a whole rebuild. I should be tearing into it here soon.
If the cheap stuff still met the KIA specs, then it doesn't matter that it was the cheap stuff.
Unless there is just some really good reason, then you may still have some recourse with the warranty, if it's still under warranty. If it came to something as expensive as an engine rebuild, I would find an attorney that specializes in vehicle issues. A well worded letter may be all you need to get KIA to change their mind, and it's still cheaper than an engine replacement/rebuild.
Anyway... looking at my wife's Forte, I can't see any really good reason why you couldn't bring it out the top. You might have to take pretty much everything in the engine bay out to do so, but it looks doable. I've never tried it, but anythings possible if you cuss at it long enough.
The service manual may list through the bottom as a time saving measure, since any dealership should have the equipment to do it that way.
