Default Oil leaking

So i noticed an oil leak in my drive way the other day. So i waited a few days thinking it could have been my parents truck or my gf's car. well needless to say it was mine. My neghbor lookd at it for me one day while I was out hunting and he said it looked like it was my timing chain cover. so the following day i looked where he told me on the pass side of the motor and it looked like a little wet spot were oil was running down. so i took it to the dealer...

At the dealer I tell them what I saw and what i thought it was, so they pulled it in the back to take a look. an hour later the service girl comes to the waiting room and says to me (in a very rude manor) "who does your oil changes?" so i answered with, "penzoil the oil changing place by my house." she then proceeds to tell me in the same rude tone that "who ever they are they need to learn how to change oil, you are suppose to change the oil drain pulg with every oil change." She then told me that they would fix it and only charge me for the diag.

I know you do not need to replace the drain plug ever, but i let them fix it anyways and told her that if it still leaked i would be back...

Has this happened to anyone else? Im sure she ment a rubber "O" ring on the draing plug but still, she was a bitch! lol

It's a known problem, my mechanic buddy at Kia told me this in confidence. It's got to do with bad sealing from the mfr plant.

Probably meant the crush washer that is supposed to be changed with each oil change.

I buy my filters from my dealership just to be nice but they never give me a ring. The hyuandai place gave my mum one when she got filters back before she got a Buick.

If you buy the filter kit from the dealer the crush washer is loose sealed in the oil filter box..

Same thing happened to me at first and I do my own oil changes. Got a new washer from Kia for oil change number 2 and 3 and same problem. So I went and bought a cheap 5 pack of nylon washers from crappy tire. Work like a charm! I think it only cost $2 for the 5. Kia washers are crap!

I don't get why the dealer or anyone here would blame the drain bolt for an oil leak that is clearly coming from the timing cover...I noticed a wet stain on my block on the pass side near the middle part of the engine before the first oil change, dealer dismissed it. I checked it again after the second oil change and it has gotten worse and looks to be coming from the timing cover area more obviously now. Taking it to the dealer as a walk-in tomorrow. I really hope they don't try to give me the run around but at least its documented from the first time I mentioned it.
