I was wondering does anyone know how to remove the drivers air bag.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable and wait for at least three minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove the driver airbag module from the steering wheel after pressing the snap fit pin stopper.

3. Remove the wiring fixing clip (C) and disconnect the horn connector (A).

4. Release the connector locking pin, then disconnect the driver airbag module connector (B).

CAUTION: The removed airbag module should be stored in a clean, dry place with the pad cover facing up.

I don't believe you need a special tool. At least, the service manual does not list a special tool part number for completing this task.

I see in the pic there is a small pin sticking out the side of the big pin. maybe that locks it in I don't know. I will do some more research if anyone has messed with them before let me know. I know the optimas have same pins and the elantras to thanks for all the help so far.

while I have been waiting on my switchs. I found out that if switchs don't work by just installing them that the cruise signal has not been activated in the car. they go threw the guaage cluster before going to computer. so you may need to pull cluster and add 2 resistors and 2 leds I found the resitors for only a couple bucks on ebay not sure what leds kia uses on there clusters yet if anyone knows the answer to that pls let me know. i found pics of the places all them may need installed. if i hadn't said it yet im working on getting stock cruise control to work in a car that didn't come with it. don't like the look of the aftermarket stick on my steering column. so far at less than half the price as aftermarket kit

After I re read your post I started thinking that your theory may be flawed because like I said I had also been wanting to do this. I did some research too. The cruise control does not work wireless. You would also have to get the harness within the steering wheel to be able to connect the new switch. That harness connects to the clock spring which would also have to have the wiring to carry the signal from the cruise control switch to the cluster or ECM. That's about as far as I got before I gave up due to it probably becoming a lot of work. Lol plus at the time Kia had not updated all the wiring diagrams for the 2014 forte. Please correct me if you know otherwise.

Great Wendle! I see you have done your homework. I'm very excited to see this work. I bought my wife a loaded LX with cruise control so if you need me to take anything apart for comparison let me know. It sucks that for me to get a MT I had to get the base model without all the goodies.

you could save me a phone call. can you call your dealer with her vin and get the part number for her clock spring I will call mine and get my part number for mine. otherwise I have to get a vin off the internet from a car for sale

I don't know why I didn't think about it earlier but since we know the clock springs are the same, I can just swap the steering wheels on my cars and see if the cruise buttons will work on my car! I'll try it tomorrow after I go back to work and bring some tools home.

let me know how it goes if there are any tricks to getting them off or not. I almost bet we will have to add the resistor and led to cluster. that im not looking forward to taking off that front cover. if you have any helpful hints for that would be great to. I have the resistors a bunch of them I would be more than happy to send you a few for your help my led has not came in the mail yet but I will have extra of them to. when you swap the switch make sure you swap the wire extension as well

Wendle, I did some digging because I've only done 1 oil change today. Lol to avoid pulling the steering wheel I just pulled the part number for your cluster and my wife's. They are different BUT when I pulled your part description it said with Auto Cruise Control. I think adding the new switch and harness may work! Do you know when you will be getting your parts?

Just looked at the diagram for the instrument cluster and it looks like its wired internally pretty much the same as the rest of the clusters. The MICOM within it is what controls all the functions and receives signals from other sensors. If you can Wendle check the connector for the instrument cluster and look for pin 37. It should be an orange wire, bottom row, 4th pin from the left, when your looking at the connector with the clip on the top. If you have this wire then I'm sure this will work. That wire goes to the clock spring and is the wire that activates cruise control.

I just got my switchs in mail today let me guess the part numbers for clusters differ by one number 94021-a7310 is yours and your wives is94021-a7300 the conector your talking about is cluster connector not the extension wire right. it will be the weekend before I can put switches in due that my women uses that car for work 3rd shift.

Yup! The connector to the instrument cluster. Hell if you already have the switches and steering wheel harness then I wouldn't bother checking. Just throw it in. I'm pretty confident that its gonna work. If it works then I'll be ordering mine Monday. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your switches and harness? Are you a Kia tech too? We pay 10% over cost at our dealership for parts and I can get away with my setup for about $130

I got 135 in my switch and harness and I am not a kia tech I work on my own cars but not a tech im a machinist by trade i ordered switch from korea guy on ebay oem part and i ordered my wire from a online kia dealer my dealer wanted 180 for switch and 40 for extension wire

i guess the one big ? i have left is did they put the resistor for cruise on the cluster and led those came in mail today to i was planning on putting switches in first just to see if it worked cause i really don't want to take cluster out but i will if i have to
