I have the 2015 sx forte,
On average what does the fuel estimator say when you fill up? When i bought the car it was at 575km till empty, then dropped down to 545 for a couple months now its at 507 when i fill up. why is it continuing to drop?
ALSO, does the eco button make a huge difference? with the button pushed and not pushed it doesn't change the fuel estimator..
Is that Range? If it is, mine shows a decrease as fuel gauge goes down.
Although it did seem like it was saying a larger number during the first few times I refilled the tank, and now always seems to be a little less after those first few months. Not by much at all, maybe going from around 405 down to 385 miles (or 652 and 620 km). I think that's probably because I was driving easier to begin with.
Your "range" is considerably less than mine, if that's what it is, which could be due to 'city' versus 'highway' driving.
And yet, if it isn't showing a change over the duration of a tank of fuel I would have to say something is wrong with it if we have the same displays.
Re-reading your question I'm guessing that's all you were saying, that the initial fuel-up range number has been getting lower over time. Again, yours is changing more than mine perhaps because of city driving...?
I only used that ECO button the first month and I wasn't noticing a difference in MPG (just gear shift differences), so I've left it off ever since. I might try it again sometime to be sure of any possible gains in MPG it might cause, but if it's only 1 or 2 MPG I won't be using it. In fact, I've heard it mainly helps for city or in-town driving and I'm usually on the highways.
I have a 15' EX. On a full tank, my range says about 310 miles or so. Within the first few miles of driving this does seem to go down pretty quickly for me. As for Crimson, I've never seen my range up that high, got me wondering why. ( I do quite a bit of highway)
For the ECO button it seems to make a difference on the highway between 60 and 70mph. The only reason I would say this is because the MPG meter seems to go up near 50. There are some noticeable shift point changes which makes acceleration weak. My dealer actually said it's not the best idea to use it when in the city or in bumper to bumper traffic. I rarely use it.
At first was 550km tank, went up to 660 at highest and now in winter hitting around 500km a tank ( ethanal in winter blends loose about 20 % + warming up car prior to driving ).
Although I have 6k on car now, I am still breaking it in. They say at 10k it should be on real average of your driving style.
The worst part is the readings are just guestimates on driving history.....If you monitor you fill ups and km's travelled you get a more accurate reading but as well next fill up maybe diffrent due to traffic/etc...
Right now I'm sitting at 9.1 l / 100km on computer, but reality 8.3l/100km calculations myself. And I drive mix 50/50 city/hwy.
I honestly get better mileage out of shell than esso or ultramar in my area.
Tried supreme and lost about 50km a tank a few times, so not worth it.
ECO does work( on '14's +, older was just a light to alert driver driving effecient ).....but from my driving habits only gained about maybe 5% effeciently so very little. But i find the transmission shifts alot more and not enough umph sometimes to do a nice fast pass.
Also, I do not find the computer adjusts in real time.....what i mean if you fill tank and says 500km, no matter how hard you drive etc......and you see your instant average at 20l/100km when passing, it doesn't adjust till after you fill tank next. So it just deducts total driven from tank fill up estimate....or thats what i notice.
I keep a record of MPG so I know it's really about 30 to 32 miles per gallon. Yours looks to be about 27 when converted from metric.
It really makes a difference when I'm driving from signal light to signal light instead of cruising the highway. My ratio is something around 20/80 city/hwy.
Last time getting gas took 10 gallons exactly (I always let pump fill and shut off itself). Actual MPG was 32.5, and since tank holds 13.1 gallons that would mean a "range" of almost 426 miles. So the dash display never says that much, typically close to 400. Now what makes that interesting is how the "average" will usually show as a little more than the actual being calculated by me, and yet that range is always less.
Something to consider: Does it ignore a small reserve in the tank, maybe a gallon or a couple liters? Or just some other error in the cars own calculations?
Mine still doesn't look far from the right numbers, not enough to matter to me.
OP seems to have a larger discrepancy going on than normal, or I'm confused now. :biggrin2:
I filled up again with the previous gas cycle i used the eco button and still only got 507km range. I just don't get why it is so low . I was sad when it was at 545, now its just even worse. Im loosing approx 2 days of driving because of this so i have to fill up earlier. I would get it if it went down faster because it is winter and very cold here but the prediction should always be the same. I'm always putting 45L in and so its just makes no sense I'm at about 7500km on the car it self. Im hopping as it warms up it will be a little better maybe? I do approx 40% city driving and 60% hwy. if it helps its about -10 to -20 where i live right now.
Remember that as the weather cools the efficiency of the engine drops as much as 15 % ... you will note the improvement again as weather warms in spring - summer. I average 35 mpg in summer and 32 in winter. 2014
2010 Kia forte koup sx 2.4l used to get 475km per tank at 176k now at 206k and my fuel tank fuel says I get 306km used to get 13.6l/100km city 8.8 hwy now I get 8.8l/100km hwy and 18l/100km city what causes range to loose 175km and city miles to go so high but hwy stays the same ?
An aging engine with high mileage? Dirty fuel injectors/filter? Old spark plugs? Air filter? My 2010 Koup SX has 300,000KM and in the summer the fuel indicator goes as high as 525KM remaining on a full tank.
