Hey Hazmat,
I think you should cut it right under the battery bracket. That should keep it nice and high for when it floods in your area and then the 2nd half will drop back in with the coupler easily. Ultimately, you'll have to judge how high the water gets and put the filter above that level.

He has to, he lives in an area that floods a lot. No pre-filter or hydro shield is going to stop water from coming in if you submerge the filter end of the intake. What he is doing is very smart actually. It allows him to have the CAI all of the time and then if it floods, a simple coupler removal and filter and he has a short ram and then when it's not flooded, put the coupler back in place and bam, CAI!

Just get an Injen hydroshield or some other prefilter. You shouldn't have PAID for a CAI if you wanted a SRI.
