2013 Forte 5door hatch not staying open

all of a sudden, the hatchback door is slamming shut after a few seconds of staying up/open. Whacked me on the head! ARGH

Can I fix this myself?

You need to replace the hydraulic lifts/struts. Can go OEM or look online/parts store for them.

You can change them yourself (just need to pop off the metal retaining clips then pop the lift off of the ball stud).

You should replace both at the same time.

Yeah, the struts are worn out. Super easy to do yourself. Check YouTube for videos on how to do it.

Here's where I got mine: www.LiftSupportsDepot.com

Just know when searching, don't select Forte. For some reason the hatchback is listed under Cerato (that's what the Forte is called in other countries).

The part number you want is PM1034 $49 for the pair.

Part numbers are also on the hydraulics that are broken. Easy to install yourself. OEM are about $25 each.
