I just bought performance headers form kspec.com and Kia installed them for me. BUt once i drove away it was making a water LIKE sound. It sounds like theres water just sitting in the pipe and when i reved my engine it goes alittle louder? Any suggestions?>

Due to how hot the headers get I doubt it is water. Might be just the sound they make. You have any pictures of it installed?

Dealer installed?
Take it back to the dealership, im not sure what would make a header sound like it's got water inside of it - is it like a dripping faucet or water splashing around? I dont think there is a burn in period but it could be that its a bolt or flange thats vibrating against something.

like Tebore said in BBM it maybe something caused by the factory exhaust with aftermarket headers.

If I had something installed by dealership i'd just take it back to them.

Let me know what you find :)
Could be rasp, or a leak. I have heard a lot of 4 bangers with a header that kind of sound like what you are describing. But it was just the raspiness of the header.

Let's see some pics, or a sound clip. The sound clip would help us diagnose.
thats strange, because my stock koup has that sound your describing. After driving around and then turning off the car, you can hear this sound under the car. It sounds like:

1. Water dripping in or onto the pipe, slowly
2. Kind of like if you splash a drop of water on a hot pan. Every 2 to 3 seconds.

Is this what your are hearing too? Oh, and this is on a dry day as well.
Yes its. Exactly what you described.
Would it be possible to take a few photo's of the headers installed. Just courious as to how tight of a fit it is and if the headers will interfer with future mods.

Thanks

If you've ever been under the car you'll see it's very easy to access the headers. You can access all the bolts from under the car.

From the top there's plenty of room (enough room for a stock turbo....) to access the header as well.

You can lift the header out or drop it out. The easiest way is to drop it out because while you're down there you can unbolt the flex pipe too.
Your original post made me think you heard the sound when you are driving and not when you turn off the car. Maybe the AC condensation drip line is landing on the exhaust? Or snow melting and dripping onto it?

That's what I thought he meant too.

Maybe the dealer figured the old heatshield didn't fit so they left it off. That would allow a lot more noise to get through and water to drip on it.
I think I would take it to a shop that has more understanding of performance mods.. It could be as simple has loosening the connecting bolts and tightening them little by little together so it seats flat or they could have installed it way off and its exhaust leak etc etc

I believe this is normal, not actually water its the sound of the engine block/exhuast cooling.

to confirm this you only hear it when your car has been turned off (correct?) - and it only last let say ~5-10mins max.

You do not hear the sound in the morning (meaning you dont hear it if the cars been sitting - only if you've driven it).

I spoke to my dealer about this. this is'nt a problem but instead caused by heat expansion/contraction (cooling/heating) - and if i remember correctly has to do with the aluminum block/other exhuast parts or engine parts.

it has more of a 'popping' sound doesnt it?

I could be wrong here...
