Hi everyone,

Im doing a custom turbo kit for my koup and just wanted to get some feedback on some questions that i have and on what you guys think. Im getting custom made headers, Downpipe, and intercooler powder coated black and also custom intercooler piping all powder coated red. Here's some of the parts ive bought for it:

A Remanufactured half Garrett Half Turbonetics turbo .63 AR both housing which is bigger than turbo kits =] (The turbo was a garrett origially and had a turbonetics exhaust housing put on it)

HKS SSQV3 Black Limited BOV

Tial 38mm Wastegate (I will be running an open dump)

I have everything to install the turbo except for anything to do with fuel management. Im starting my kit at the lowest setting for my wastegate which is about 4.5 pounds. The guy doing all the custom welding and painting and installation is hoping i can get away with a Boost sensitve fuel pressure regulator and bigger injectors. I will be pushing my boost up to just about 8 pounds and will probably end up buying an AEM fuel injection controller by then but i was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best option for running the 4.5 pounds of boost as far as fuel management goes. I already bought cooler plugs to help with detination but i really could use some advise. Also if any one knows how much boost the stock MAPs may be able to handle (my guy guessed around 5 pounds) and also if anyone knows if the fuel pump is good enough to handle up to how much pounds of boost?

Thanks in advanced for anything you can help me out with!!!

I am getting the headers made tonight and making sure the turbo fits behind the motor. I will post pictures for those of you how are interested =]! Also my guy might be making multiple headers/downpipes/and intercooler piping kits for those of you who do not want to pay 4000 dollars for a turbo kit from turbo kits and selling the parts so people can do there own kits like I am doing. I will have spent about 2k maybe 2.1k on my turbo kit which will be better than turbo kits.com =] ... Please let me know of any feedback you have and ill be sure to keep everyone up to date on my project!=]

** Trubo lol thats kind of embarassing as this was my first post.

that has got to be the least noobest first post ever?
Very NOOB post, he misspelled TRUBO in the Title!

LOL, just diggin on ya man. Still a great thread! :)

As far as R&D, it sounds like he is still doing "research" on this that and the other, so I include that in my question about estimate hours on R&D.

Hahha^

Awesome man glad to see you here and cant wait to see more.

Where are you from as in what region of the world?

not sure dimensions wise. My installer is gunna make the biggest intercooler he can fit. When i find out ill be sure to let everyone know. Once its made i can give more details obviously =] The kit should be installed within the next 2 weeks ... tonight is just the header build to make sure it fits ... but ill be sure to keep u up 2 date on the intercooler stuff as i k it is a tight fit!

Makes me wanna get one. Maybe I will save the money instead of anything else I was gonna do to this car and get a turbo if I can get it for about 2k. Welcome and I definitely agree with noodile's comment.

good luck,
interested in seeing pics

2K, is that parts or parts & labor for your guy doing all the work?
What's your estimate on how many hours it will take you to R&D and end up with a finished product?
Would like to hear more of your background, assuming you don't just jump in to doing a custom turbo.

Ok, as you can guess I know nothing about turbo installation. I understand the premise behind them, but that's it.

$4k gets you a turbo, all the piping, intercooler, BOV, wastegate, custom header, harness, fuel managment, plug and play harness thats pre-tuned.... youre not saving money, youre gonan give yourself a headache!! lol i mean best luck to you and all, but its safer to go with a system thats specific for the car. your gonan need like 500ml injectors, and the fuel pump doesnt need to be changed. but that plug and play harness is a life saver

Kits are for pussies.

Real men piece and weld their stuff together. Then blow it up and start all over.

Headers arn't gunna be made till saterday now. there was a delay in the delivery of the piping. Will keep everyone posted!

bigger turbo.... putting out half the psi i am. so does it matter what size it is? the engine can onlly take so much boost. what about exhuast? youre not going to run a turbo on a stock exhuast and cat are you? plus tune, and dyno? theres the extra $1k so you pretty much spent the same as me! and powder coat the tubing all you want. you need to wrap it in the heatshield tape. that down pipe will melt wires in a heartbeat. it runs about 1800 degress at the headers. dont forget to tell him to put a heat shield on the firewall....crocks got so hot it melted the ceramic coating on it

1 dont powder coat your FMIC it'll clog it up .. paint it with ceramic or with heat dispersion.. (something that has thermal properties to it)

2 a bigger turbo isnt necessarily a good idea.. bu long as your smart with the boost you might be ok

3 what part of ct

4you shouldnt need to wrap the header

and 5 yes KIA he will save money in the end if his installer knows what he's doing lol however this also depends on the sch piping he's using compaired to TKs and such there are alot of factors to look at

im not getting my down pipe powder coated lmfao! Also i said im starting at 4.5 then going to 8 lol. and i k turbo kits doesnt give you a free dyno lol so how much did that run you? Obviously im gunna wrap the headers and downpipe but you dont wrap intercooler piping. I already have a cat back exhaust so subtract whatever you said that would cost. Plus im getting a free dyno and tune ............

If you need a Air/Fuel controller or even a A/F and Timing controller then you can always go with Split Second. They even have an extra injector controller so you can run a 5th injector for fuel as a lot of aftermarket kits do.

As for the intercooler, are you keeping the foam crash bar or no removing it for more space? I know in some cars you can put in a much bigger intercooler by taking out the 5 MPH bumper.

Thanks for the advice! .. Im not sure about taking out the foam crash bar or not. Again i dont know everything and my installer is taking the time as we go to figure these things out ... People hava asked about the R&D of my kit and it is as we go for the most part ... researching what we can but expirementing as well. Thanks again for the advise! ill run it by my guy as an option!
