2011 Kia Forte makes a loud bang noise on startup

Hi,
My car has around 112,500 miles and recently started making a very loud bang during startup. Sometimes it's during startup and sometimes a second or two after. When I have the hood open it seems as it is coming from the general area of the serpentine belt. Also, I recently noticed that the car seems to be consuming more gas than usual, but don't know if it's related. Here's a video I uploaded. During the first half you can hear it at startup, the second half is from the cabin and it happens about a second later.

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Hard to tell from video. Exterior video can't tell on loud bang.

Interior video, there's a whoop or sounds like something moved due to suction?

Check the air filters?
Check the engine air box & it's tube. Too hard to know in the video.
As for gas burning than normal,

Check, clean or replace fuel injectors, Ignition coils, iridium spark plugs, spark plug gaps, MAP/MAF sensor, engine oil, dirty fuel, cheap fuel, use better fuel or grade, fuel cap, lead foot, dirty engine filter.

Techron gas/fuel treatment may help & is Kia/Hyundai approved for use in gas tank.

See at your local Autozone, O'Reilly, Advance auto parts for an OBD2 scan for codes.

Hope this helps a bit.
Unfortunately when I took the video from the outside it wasn't as loud. The bang is heard as soon as ignition is complete, a loud click. The one from inside the cabin was very loud and I felt the vibration in the brake pedal, but wasn't caught well in the video.

Today I started the car up, and the sound it made this time was a very loud grinding noise that lasted slightly longer, but was very loud and concerning. Kind of like metal on metal grinding noise.

I have a scanner and there are currently no codes. Sparkplugs are about a year old. I'll take a look at the rest of the possible issues you mentioned.

Thanks

The video doesn't help identify the sound you are hearing.

You can also try temporarily removing the serpentine belt and starting the car to see if the sound goes away or continues. Do not run the engine for more then a few seconds without the serpentine belt. This will eliminate all the bearings (water pump, AC Compressor, alternator, and idler pulleys) - to see if it is one of these bearings making the noise.

Good Luck!

Let us know what you find.

All I heard was what sounded to me like a slight starter grind on the flywheel. BUT, I'm an old man and my hearing isn't as good as it was 35 years ago. I agree with ForteGT2 about removing the belt and trying it.

Thanks, I'll see if I can try getting the belt off. I did it once to replace the alternator and it was a real pain to get off and back on for this car.
