I think you're going to find out that the dealer who replaced the transmission won't be able to work on it either.

Many shops simply remove and replace the transmission and don't know how to actually repair them.

Modern transmissions are complicated, it's costly to send a mechanic to a transmission school, transmission repair usually takes long downtimes, and tearing down a transmission can lead to additional unexpected costs.

Agree, I'm not sure that anybody can do "deep" work on these DCTs, I certainly don't expect a dealer to be able to handle it. What we're hoping for is that Kia, through the their representatives, is willing to help out.

Is that a Kia parts listing for the 7 speed DCT?

According to a TSB for TCM upgrade, part number 43000 2D106 is the DCT replacement for the Forte, however when I search Kia sites online only the Optima version (43000 2D086) comes up.

Agree, I don't expect the Kia dealer to be able to fix the DCT, but I'm hoping that Kia, through their representatives, will do the right thing and help us out with any repair. In case we end up getting no help from Kia, does anybody know a good source for a used DCT?

car-part.com

If you see any listed with LKQ corp I would suggest that first with a part like an engine or transmission. LKQ is a large company with deep pockets so if there is an issue with the used transmission they have the means to make it right. Sketchy little junkyards will usually sell you something then offer no assistance if something goes wrong.
If you need production date it is on the tag inside the driver door where the vin is.

Update, my daughter ended up getting a local transmission shop to replace the trans with a new one, to the tune of $8k and many weeks. KIA was uninterested in providing any assistance, seems like a terrible company and a terrible dealer network (and the car got a huge bumper ding on the dealer lot). I's too bad really, like I said it's a fun car with lots going for it, but sorry, I'll recommending that people stay away from KIA products.

Sorry you had this problem.

I'm sure you'll agree that ALL car company dealers would behave like this when the car is out of warranty.

Look at what all the Honda owners are going through with the 1.5t engines in the newer vehicles. Head bolts stretch and the head gaskets start leaking, along with other related issues. They are not standing behind this major issue at all when it happens after the 5/60 powertrain warranty expires. Cost to the Honda owners is $3000-6000 depending on the severity.

Sorry, I would not agree that ALL car companies would provide NO ASSISTANCE when a major failure occurs 2 months out of warranty. Poke around a bit on the web and there are plenty of cases of manufacturers assisting with "good faith" repairs on out of warranty vehicles. I think that we can all agree that transmissions should never fail under 100,000 of normal use, let alone after 30,000 miles. It's an embarrassment and frankly a disgrace these days to have a major failure like this, twice with the same component.

So your car got two DCT transmissions? Odd if so. Who drives the car?
Yes, the original transmission was replaced at around 10,000 miles, I believe due to TSB SA281 (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2017/MC-10115240-9999.pdf). My daughter said that the original transmission had been hesitating sometimes during upshifting, but it wasn't too bad, she took the car in for warranty work on fuel filler vent and the dealer informed her that they were going to replace the transmission. At around 40,000 miles the replacement failed, in a different manner, she indicated that it had been working fine, then failed first thing one morning.

Have a 2017 Forte5 SX with 1.6 turbo and DCT automatic. Great car, lots of fun to drive and lots of features. Unfortunately we've been disappointed with the reliability of the DCT transmission. Purchased the car used with about 6k miles on it. 6 months later, took it to the dealer to fix a gas filler issue, under warranty, and they indicate that there's a transmission "recall" and they have to replace the transmission. The transmission seemed to be working fine. 2 weeks ago, started the car up in the morning, put it into gear and nothing happend, no reverse either, and there's a CEL. A scan showed some sort of clutch neutral position error. Take it to the dealer, needs a new transmission, the explanation was that it "just gave out", warranty expired 2 months ago, so it's going to cost $7000 for a new one. Apart from this being an utter disgrace in this day and age, KIA corporate doesn't seem too interested in helping out. Has there been any other experiences like this with the Forte5 SX model? A search of the forums didn't show much. Thanks in advance.
I have had no issues with the transmission. Just had fluid changed around 160000klms. Expect to get another few years from it. Sorry about your bad luck with Kia dealer.
