I have a 2016 Kia forte5 with the 2.0 engine. On my Oil cap it specifically says to use 5w20… but in my owners manual it says to either use 5w20 or 5w30. And I’ve been told using 5w30 provides a bit more protection then a 5w20 oil would. But again my oil cap says to use 5w20 meanwhile my book says it’s okay to use both. Should I use the 5w30 for better engine protection even though my cap says 5w20? Thanks

5w20 is supposed to be better for fuel economy. I used 5w20 in my 2010 Forte for 150,000+ miles and never had any issue.
If you live in the desert or Southern U.S. where the daily temps are 90F or higher during summer 5w-30 would be a good choice - during the summer. Anywhere else 5w-20 is the way to go.
My 1st gen engine oil cap states 5W20. Switched to 5W30 from day 1 & oem engine oil filter when I got my old Forte Koup. Never had any problems.
