My first post so I should probably introduce myself too, My name in John and I live in Boise Idaho. I picked up my 2014 Kia Forte EX a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it.....until today. It has hit the 90+ degree mark today and the air conditioning has decided it doesn't really want to work. I tried it with the recir on and off, not maxed out but about 90% of the way.....nothing. I was going downhill and had my foot off the gas and it started to blow a little bit of cool (not cold) air but the moment it leveled out and I pushed the gas it was blowing warm air again.

Has anyone else ran into this issue or heard of any tech reports on the subject? It's gonna be 100 tomorrow and Friday I'm driving through Nevada. Thanks.

My first suggestion, given it sounds like it's a brand new car, is to get straight down to the dealer where you purchased it and get them to take a look. If it's a fault then it should be covered by the warranty.

Have to say that living in Florida I have appreciated the excellent auto climate control on my 2014. Not only does it cool quickly but if you don't touch the recirc and fresh control, it works automatically. Not even my Lincoln did that.

Hey my friend, this may sound silly and obvious, but make sure the AC button is on and lit, otherwise it will just blow air, not cold air.

I say this because a few cars ago, I had hit the AC button unknowingly which just lets the fan run. Took me a while to figure out the AC button was off.

If you already checked that, and it's not the problem, take it to the dealership.

I don't have the auto-climate control and yes, the A/C light was on. I tried running it again last night after the sun went down and the temps got down into the 70's and still no cool air.

Of course this morning it was 60 degrees and it was blowing out cool'ish air. It's at the dealer right now. First thing they checked was the cabin filter, looked brand new.

So this is what I got from the dealer. Some cars have been delivered from the factory with little refrigerant in their systems so he drained out what was in mine, checked for leaks, and refilled it. He didn't find any leaks and it was putting out some freezing air as I drove it back to work. The road trip through the state of Nevada is back on.

So, if someone starts a thread asking about air conditioning issues you can now tell them to stop being a newbie and use the search tool. ;)

Or take the thing to the dealer. That's why we buy cars with 10/100 warranties!

If you have recently purchased your car then you should definitely take it to the dealer. It could be possible that the problem persists in the ac vents. It is crucial that yo get your ac service done regularly so that its cooling mechanism functions smoothly.

I'm not sure if there was a change between the 14 and 15 model or if there is a difference between the trim levels but, my 15 Forte 5 SX has no cabin air filter. It has an ionized or ozonated system where it cleans the air without the use of a cabin air filter. So I'm just curious, if yours is the same as mine, why they would check the cabin air filter. It says it on the dash either just above or below the climate controls. It would be cool to know if it's the same or not. But I imagine if they say they checked the cabin air filter that there was one haha.

That's silly. The ac system shouldn't need 'servicing' unless there is a problem. That's generally a waste of money.

Same with brake servicing. The costs associate with servicing at most places negate any savings in longevity (if there even is any) where in my case it caused more problems than it prevented.

The cabin air is used to filter out solid particulates from outside air (weed seeds, dead bugs, dead bug body parts,...etc.

The ionized (ozonated system) is used to remove smells from air (smelly feet, mold, smoke smells).

They are completely different system.

I would check and see if your car comes with a cabin filter. If not, buy one and install it yourself (it rests behind the glove box).

I recently bought a 2011 Kia Forte Koup from Carmax and the ac was not working very well, they replaced the compressor and it helped a little. I put a digital temperature in the outlet and it was reading 50F even after driving about 10 miles. I popped the hood and looked at the compressor lines, I found that the cold return line into the cabin WAS NOT INSULATED AT ALL ESPECIALLY AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE WHERE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS!!!!! So I went to Home Depot and bought a $1.77 foam pipe insulation. I wrapped most of the cold return line with foam and used aluminum bailing wire at key areas to hold it in place. I took another drive and voila, outlet temp was now 36F!!!!
Try this cheap fix and you will have to turn ac off because it now gets too cold. I live in the desert where 125F temps are normal during summer. Looking forward to a cold ride now.
