I just purchaced my first KIA, FORTE. Great car so far except for a minor, intermitted shifting problem. Whe car is up to normal temp, driving for at least a half hour, the 2-3 & 3-4 upshift hits hard, slight engine RPM surge. This has happened about 10 times.
It has been doing it since new. Now has 1500 miles on it. Dealer says they will check it out on our first service.
Has any one else having this problem?:(

I have 4800 on my sedan with the 5spd and it is smooth as silk, I really like the use of the manual option, it gives it alot more fun to drive, but I have noticed that if I forget to shift it does it for me, must be getting to old haha

Haha I'm 19 and i love that feature, yet I too forget to shift every once and a while....I think its cause my brain doesn't feel a clutch pedal so it say "oh relax you dont have to shift haha" although sometimes i miss my ol' manual sunfire :(

I have 740klms on it now, and it seems to get peppier everyday.
Think i'm just getting more accustom to it?

I have had the same problem with mine. High rpm between shifts and slams into gear. But mine also shifts very quickly. If I slow down to make a turn and thentry to get up to speed again, it will up shift to drive within a few seconds, mostly before I hit 60Kmph, leaving me at about 1200 rpm on the tach and no power, and you really have to put your foot into it to get it to kick back down to the point of when it does, it's almost a redline on the tach. Service keeps telling me to wait for a ECU update. Been telling me that for two months now.

I figured that is just how the car was programed, mine has been like that since mile 12 when I got it. I have a more serious issue where it keeps revs to long (at least I feel) and then slams into the next gear. If I have to drive with a bit of speed, like to get up to speed on short on ramps, I use manual mode so it shifts when I tell it.

Thats another of the issues I have experienced. My gripe with the dealership now is if any of these issues if going unfixed are going to cause any permanent damage to the engine or tranny. These hard shift and high revs can't be all that good for it.

Schedule an appointment with your dealer to have them look at it -- establish a record that you are concerned about an issue. Be polite each time you bring it in, that way if something goes wrong they can't say you caused it...

I'm not upset about it. I'm in the dealership all the time through my work. I know the guys pretty good in there and they know my concern and it is documented. The service manager says this sort of issue is noted in a few dealerships.

Hey Kyle,

I have absolutely noticed this. I've got about 800 miles on my EX with ECO and every day it's running smoother with more pep. These cars seem to have a short 1st gear with a big leap if your not careful. I'm noticing the power more in upper gears now that was not there initially, bound to be just breaking in.
