I’ve got a 2015 Forte whose brake line was recalled yet parts in Korea on a National back order so concerned. Mine r corroded and tech took pics.
I took my 2015 Forte in for the brake line recall, it failed the inspection, the dealer essentially confiscated it and arranged for an Enterprise rental (Toyota Corolla) charged to the Kia dealer, which I've been driving for over a month. At the time they mentioned a 3 month wait, but I sensed that was just a guess.

Just got my Kia back today. They said all done and good to go! I go in and asked for an inspection. Its been sitting there for 16 weeks and is past due. Now all my breaks need to be replaced and my battery is dead, or I don't pass. I replaced the breaks 2 months before taking it in for the recall. I said I'll go elsewhere, I go to drive my car straight to work running behind and I'm pressing the break pad to the floor. The breaks barely working and my whole car shakes now. Great.

My Forte has been at the dealership since Aug 31 2022 waiting on recall parts. I argued and was given a courtesy car, thank goodness. We took my car in 2 days after receiving the letter from Kia and it has sat there every since.. while sitting at a large dealership it has been wrecked into by a tow truck driver (fixed in their collision dept) now it has mice in the glove box!! We were told we could always turn it in to the dealership and buy a new car or return the courtesy car and have our car towed to our house and let it sit or just keep waiting.... contacting KIA does absolutely nothing they just say talk to the dealership. Now the dealership is saying once the brake line is fixed they will contact KIA and see if they will repair any damage caused by the mice!! So damn frustrating that this is still dragging on...

Talked to dealership this morning, still no ETA on the brake lines coming in, was told to call KIA customer service... called and the lady was very nice but put me on hold to call the dealership...she said the same damn thing the dealership told me! Still have the courtesy car and no idea when I'll get my car back...starting month 6 of it sitting at the dealership.

all of the issues Kia and Hyundai are having is intentional to destroy the Korean car market.. shit companies like GM need them gone.

I wouldn't go that far, but GM does suck bad enough that I could see it
When Ford switched to cars, they put out a survey to current Ford car owners asking if they'd go to an equivalent Ford SUV when they switched, or if they'd go to an Asian brand car. Something like 65% said they'd go to a different brand to get a regular car. American companies are only around because the government just hands our tax dollars away to corporations that don't care enough to make stuff that's any good, because why would they? They can just get another bailout.

That's insane. I'd be pissed. Hopefully it gets resolved soon, but at this point I'm sure you aren't holding your breath. They need to get their stuff together. Brake lines aren't that hard.

Bad part is the brake lines probably cross reference to a Hyundai and they are sitting at the dealership totally unavailable to Kia.... this happens more often than you think.

Brake lines on my wife's KIA rusted away prior to the recall. Made the repairs (yes, even aftermarket parts took a while to track down) and contacted KIA after receiving recall noticed. They opened a case and instructed me to bring car into KIA for rustproofing to complete recall and close the ticket. Once that was done I was to submit bill for reimbursement.

I just had my brakes fail on 2014 Kia Forte going 60mph last Friday here in Wisconsin. My wife had originally called the local Kia dealership in August when we received the “voluntary service campaign” letter in regards to brake line corrosion. The dealership informed her that they were awaiting parts for the issue and would let us know when they arrived. (We never received a call back) Fast forward 6 months and I had to downshift and pull the e brake to come to a stop when the brake light came on and the pedal went fully to the floor. Luckily I was able to limp it home. I inspected all the caliper pistols and found no leaks, filled the master cylinder back up and by morning my garage floor was definitely showing where the brake lines had failed….. right above that wonderful plastic shroud. We’ll see what the dealership comes back with later in the week when the vehicle is towed there for inspection on Kia’s dime.

Where is the info on this brake line recall? The brake lines on my 2014 Forte failed last night due to corrosion, and I’ve read several posts online on forums about this recall, but it’s not listed on the NHTSA or KIA list of recalls. I called my local KIA dealer as well, and they stated there were 3 recalls, but none related to brake lines.

According to what I have found it’s not a nation wide recall but a “voluntary service campaign”. I’m not sure what the parameters are for a recall, but when brake lines fail within 10 years of a new vehicle driving off the lot there seems to be an issue. Here is the link that encompasses the forte service campaign. However the 2014 doesn’t seem to be included in this exact bulletin:

Kia has since kept my vehicle on the dealer lot. Warranted me a loaner through Enterprise (within 4 days of getting it towed to the dealer) as the brake lines are on indefinite back order. Free towing is available through this brake failure if your brake light comes on and the brake pedal goes straight to the floor. 1-800-333-4542. Kia contacted me once this tow request was in to have a statement recorded on the incident.

This entire failing brake line effort by KIA is way beyond appalling, IMO. Part shortages is certainly beyond their control, however they should be able to find at least one person in their organization who doesn't automatically follow everyone else into the stupid line.

Any brake line issue, where only a small section of the line has failed, can easily and quickly be resolved by having a small section of replacement line patched in by a shop which is competent at building brake lines. For anyone who has the know-how and the proper double flaring tools, patching in a brake line section is a very simple an easy job - probably no more than an hour or so for someone who is good at it. I've successfully replaced large sections of brake line using inexpensive double flaring tools, and lots of othere DIYers successfully do this stuff as well. So for a compentent shop professional, this work is really simple, basic stuff.

But instead of reimbursing owners a few hundred dollars for each one of these repairs, Kia apparently thinks it's better to pay for rental vehicles, for however long it will take for the parts to arrive (or create extremely $hitty customer relations by not providing any type of loaner at all). It will be a very sad day when the first really bad injury or fatality takes place as a result of Kia's stupidity with this issue. And if that unfortunate event does happen, I hope they get boiled in oil, just like they should be. I just can't understand why simple, logical thinking isn't happening very much anymore in these big companies.

How did you convince them to provide a rental car? When I spoke with them, they told me that they could reimburse a rental for $40 per day. Didn't mention how long that was good for. I'm not comfortable paying out of pocket knowing there's a chance they deny the reimbursement.

When I called the 1-800# listed above to schedule a tow Kia customer service reached out to me asking if the dealership had given a loaner or a rental to me. Maybe start with Kia customer service and not the dealership if that’s the route you are taking. I was very stern on wanting a rental/loaner as this brake line issue wasn’t my fault, but that of Kia’s. Kia even went as far as throwing the idea out of buying the vehicle back from me at KBB value. No thanks, I’d rather get me vehicle back
