This entire failing brake line effort by KIA is way beyond appalling, IMO. Part shortages is certainly beyond their control, however they should be able to find at least one person in their organization who doesn't automatically follow everyone else into the stupid line.
Any brake line issue, where only a small section of the line has failed, can easily and quickly be resolved by having a small section of replacement line patched in by a shop which is competent at building brake lines. For anyone who has the know-how and the proper double flaring tools, patching in a brake line section is a very simple an easy job - probably no more than an hour or so for someone who is good at it. I've successfully replaced large sections of brake line using inexpensive double flaring tools, and lots of othere DIYers successfully do this stuff as well. So for a compentent shop professional, this work is really simple, basic stuff.
But instead of reimbursing owners a few hundred dollars for each one of these repairs, Kia apparently thinks it's better to pay for rental vehicles, for however long it will take for the parts to arrive (or create extremely $hitty customer relations by not providing any type of loaner at all). It will be a very sad day when the first really bad injury or fatality takes place as a result of Kia's stupidity with this issue. And if that unfortunate event does happen, I hope they get boiled in oil, just like they should be. I just can't understand why simple, logical thinking isn't happening very much anymore in these big companies.
