Who did it before? and no, i'm not talking about power-shifting. I am talking about shifting without the clutch, smoothly, without grinding gears, without hurting the tranny. when its done right, it has no effect on the tranny. anyone tried it on the koups yet?

I did, i think its pretty neat. but i don't do it regularly, just once in a blue moon.

I did it a few times, it is pretty cool... would suggest doing it very often though, but its nice to know it works if the clutch ever goes.

We're learning (the hard way) that the synchros in these transmissions are um... soft. So doing this will almost certainly cause premature wear, which will cause them to seize, and well... shifting can go from noisy to hard, to impossible. Even if you 'think' you got a nice clean shift off without the clutch, even a small variance will be noticed by the hardware...

The 'soft' synchros are not a design or manufacturing problem, they are an 'improved customer experience' thing as it gives a more forgiving nature to the transmission. This is a commuter car, not a race machine. Treat it as such.

That's my view on it... to each their own.

Good call, i did it probably like 4 times to date, but thanks for the heads up, no more clutchless shifting for me.

I only slip it out of gear without clutching if I see a light turn red far ahead and want to coast in. I used to shift up and down a bit like that with my older Chevy Sprint but after awhile the tranny would occasional slip out of gear in third and it might not have been the cause but I don't want to chance it with this car.

What's the difference between power shifting and shifting w/o the clutch?

Powershift: you keep your foot on the gas while you shift

Clutchless shift: you take it out of gear, then slip smoothley in the next gear at the right RPM. for example, you're in third at 4000 rpm, you take it out, let it drop to 3200 rpm (or whetever it is) and the gear will fall in place. do it with any gear

Idk what ya call it...used to rev the engine to 4k rpm not hit the clutch, let go of the gas and shift...that's what I know as power shifting.

au contraire mon ami, it does have an effect on a modern syncromesh transmission, quite a disasterous one in fact, i used to fix the suckers for a living

Noodile - thanks for showing us how to damage a tranny ...why don't u just trade your manual to automatic and for sure this will be clutchless.....
