Does anyone know of a Lid or Cover available for the front console of the forte/cerato sedan? The area that has the ipod, aux and power connections in it. It doesnt need to be lockable.

I am wanting to put a lid on here so I can have items out of sight in this box. It looks like there is a ridge just below the top for something like this to work. If I cant find one anywhere I will look to make one out of Black Perspex/Acrylic.

Cheers.

I've done lots of searches and haven't found anything yet so kinda thought I would have to go down the diy line.

Yeah I will let you know for sure, and post a pic or two up once I have something done.

Well I made up the template for the lid today so will be looking at buying some Acrylic/Perspex in the morning and making the finished product over the weekend.

I will have to see how I go with mine first. I can only imagine that the koup would have some sort of difference in the size or shape of that console part anyway but will have to see.

After reading this thread I can't stop looking at my console now and wondering how it would look covered. I thought the same thing when I got my car. "Wow, it would have been cool if this was covered." Post some pics after you make it...I would so be down to buy one from ya.

OK peeps. I will be taking some photos tomorrow morning as I have to get some photos of other stuff too and will post straight away after that.

I look forward to your comments. I quite like it but will be doing a few little tweeks here and there to get it sitting sweet.

As for buying a lid off me, well that will all depend on my time to make it, shipping costs etc as I am in Queensland, Australia.

Ok well here it is. Still a little rough with some more finishing touches to me made, like the finger hole to open it needs to be tidied up.

See photos below.

I used 3 pieces of cardboard to get the individual section shapes and then stapled and taped them together as a template.

Tools Needed. I used the Hotplate on my stove to heat up and bend the cover to shape. Hold it above the hotplate and not on it of course.

i like the look of it..........just curious- how did you mount the hinging?
or is it just sitting there?
(hopefully kia designers look in here once in a while and see what the public likes and is willing to do to make their cars happy)
and personally- i'd like a multipoint hinge there instead of a open/close type deal

It does just sit in there as under the centre tower part it is a tight fit and slips in there and is sits nice and firm.

I dont know how you would go putting a hinge etc in. This one certainly suits my needs as a simple cover and fits right in with the gloss black surround of the gear leaver.

There will be a mark II version soon as I want to adjust a few things to neaten it up a little and in reality the 3mm gloss black Acrylic/Perspex in 20cm x 2cm was just $6 Australian.

Unfortunately I dont think I would be able to make these for you overseas guys as the console shape tends to angle towards the driver and with you guys sitting on the wrong side of the car I dont have a template or a car to test it on.

Cheers for your interest guys and I will post some more images of the finished Mark II version once its done.

lol- come on KIA designers - pay attention here.
this is something that your buyers want!!!
after all- if they dont want the lid- they can remove it.
its easier to put something into the design and have it removed-
than to have your customers have to design it from scratch
(and such a nice deal he has done)
