Hi,
I am thinking of buying a used 2017 or 2018 Kia forte. But I read about carbon built up in GDI engine and it seems to me that no solution can really works at this time. I read about walnut blasting, catch can and some fluid like CRC, SeaFoam.. but no method is actually works in my opinion. And open the intake valve manifold and do the hard work is not something I am looking forward to doing.
Kia website not very clear about if the Kia forte engine is MPI or DI. I read in some website that it's MPI, Can anyone confirm?
Another observation is that Kia Rio used to be GDI but from 2020, it changed back to MPI. I guess in the future, the MPI would be popular again as there's so much problem with GDI engine.

Thanks for your help

It depends on the trim level and which engine it has. Could be either.

Bought a 2019 FE last year, which come with the MPI. Here's a pick of the engine # sticker on the fuel rail, indicating MPI. Not sure about other years, but you might check that on a car you're considering. FYI, the fuel rail sits on top of the injectors where they enter the head and is attached to the fuel line/hose from the tank, you need to pull the plastic engine cover to see it

Our 2016 GDI runs like a new car, we put its last 54,000 on it. No repairs! 31.5 mpg for 4 years.
I installed a catch jar too.
Also use STP or similar gas treatment a couple of times a year.
Synthetic oil changes at 4,500 to 5,000 miles. Wix filter.
We use the cheapest gas we can find too.
