It depends on the trim level and which engine it has. Could be either.

 

Bought a 2019 FE last year, which come with the MPI. Here's a pick of the engine # sticker on the fuel rail, indicating MPI. Not sure about other years, but you might check that on a car you're considering. FYI, the fuel rail sits on top of the injectors where they enter the head and is attached to the fuel line/hose from the tank, you need to pull the plastic engine cover to see it

The 147 hp engine is MPI, that's in the LX and FE models, the 173 hp (up to 2016)and later on 164 hp (2017-2018) in the EX model is GDI.

 

Also depends on your region or market. I've recently learned that Korean market doesn't get MPi engines anymore, they only get GDi, whereas many export models will still use MPi.

 

We have 2 GDI equipped Fortes, and both have catch cans installed, done it myself, not very hard to do. They are nice engines. Need a bit TLC, like e.g. catch cans and also, use only OEM oil filters.

 

Our 2016 GDI runs like a new car, we put its last 54,000 on it. No repairs! 31.5 mpg for 4 years.
I installed a catch jar too.
Also use STP or similar gas treatment a couple of times a year.
Synthetic oil changes at 4,500 to 5,000 miles. Wix filter.
We use the cheapest gas we can find too.

 

While a catch-can may be helpful from keeping excessive oil from building-up on the back sides of your intake valves, you don't need to waste money on fuel additives, just make sure you are using Top Tier fuel and it will keep your injectors clear.
