Driver side mirror problems

Went through the car wash this weekend. Mirror got pushed forward. Power actuated mirror will not work now, after I pushed it back into position. Long story short, a plastic piece apparently broke inside the mirror not allowing the mirror to swing up when I lock the car. Can I get just the plastic piece and replace it? Or will I have to buy the whole assembly? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that. :(

While I don't know the answer to your question, I'm wondering if you discussed this with the employees of the car wash in question? It's been decades since I went through one of those, but I think they have a big sign that says they're not responsible if they destroy your car, so it probably won't do any good. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.

And that's the reason I haven't been through one since the 90s. One of them damaged the paint on my car, and although it ended up being minor and easily fixed, I never felt comfortable going through one again.

I do hope it's an easy fix though.

Update! Talked to the manager of the car wash the day it happened. He called Kia on Monday, then contacted me. Said he could only offer me a $80 car wash package. After going to my local dealer for service this morning, I was told it would be $620 to fix my mirror. $620 !!!! What a load of horses**t! Said I'd have to replace the entire unit. Not a happy camper right now.

Ouch. That's outrageous. Is it $620 for just the parts, or is that installed? Mirrors aren't too complicated to remove and replace, the only thing is they generally don't come pre-painted, so you would still have to have a shop paint it unless you want your car looking weird.

For what it's worth, here's my story:

Everything went fine until I reached the end of the car wash, at which point one of the air ducts came loose as the dryer turned on, and the metal-reinforced ducting fell down on the car I had bought just a week prior, leaving a trail of scuffs and scratches behind as it dragged along the paint. Believe it or not, I wasn't even that mad about it until I showed it to the manager. To say that he didn't care was an understatement, I mean he didn't even try to fake being concerned, it was more of an "okay whatever, now leave me alone" type of conversation.

The dealership I had bought from was located across the street, so I drove over there and had their body guys take a look at it. The scratches weren't too deep thankfully, and they were able to buff it back to a mirror shine. No charge, and they even gave me a cold beverage to enjoy while I waited. Nice guys, and they got a lot of repeat business from me. The car wash, not so much.

Anyway, for the past 20 years now I have only hand washed my cars and used the touch-free type in the winter.
