I am considering a new/used Forte. I just drove a new one last night, and with it running and the hood open, it seemed that the engine was rocking back and forth a bit. I was wondering if that was common to others that own one. It wasn't making any loud noise or anything, just rocking more than I usually see on vehicles, including my 97 Altima. Thanks for any input.

Sounds like the engine mount is shot (actually more common than you think for cars designed with engines that drop out of the way eg Mazda 3). Mine doesn't move around a lot. It moves a bit when you rev it or shift but not rocking a whole lot.

Every engine "rocks" as they sit on rubber mounts -- otherwise you'd have some serious issues with vibration. In-line 4 cylinders usually vibrate more than "V" engines. Watch some dynos of 4-cylinder engines if you want to see engines really rocking...it's normal.

An engine with less cylinders runs rougher. Im guessing your Altima was a V6, hence why it ran smoother. Id say if you really wanted a 2nd opinion, stop by a local shop on a test drive and get a quick look.
