Well the kit is on. Ed talked me out of the dual system. The first reason was flow--nothing was going to flow like a good single system. The second reason was weight and cost. The third was there is no good way to cut the rear diffuser to match the stock cutout. Last the area on the drivers side rear is smaller thand the passenger side.
With that decision behind us we went with a 2-1/4 pipe size to keep torque loss down. The stock system goes as small as 1 7/8 especially in and out of the stock muffler.
The system you see here is a mix of Magnaflow and Dynomax. I wanted the car to flow very well but be very quiet. What I got was what I wanted--almost stock sounding with more pickup and better gas mileage. I averaged 35.5 MPG on the way home. Once home I romped on it and it pulls harder across the range. I am expecting that there is a 10-15HP bump from the kit.
Here is the stock system
Here are the rear positions I mentioned
Drivers Side
Passenger side (Note the size differnce!)
And now for some comparision shots
Stock Muffler vs Dynomax (Look at how tiny and jacked up the exit to the spillter is..)
Look at the difference in size and smooth flow! Also look at how the tube on the stock muffler is 1-7/8 at the exit!
The Aftermarket (much better) Split Tip
The Dynomax Muffler installed and waiting on Tip
New 2 1/4 Catback Resonator from Magnaflow (Very Quieting and smooth straight through)
New 2 1/4 Mid Pip going towards Dynomax Muffler
New Dynomax Muffler with the Awesome tip installed...
And dual offset tip!
Merry Christmas folks--let me know what you think. Oh, yeah and the bonus sounds almost completely stock but more umphh and 35.5 mpg on the highway with the 2.4!
