Going to attempt my first personal car buy tomorrow on a Forte Koup. My choices are between a MSRP EX for 19995 or an SX for 21140.

Now ive read around of people around here getting their cars for 17500 -18000.

Any tips on getting a car this low? I know getting the car around Invoice- which is around 18.5 to 20 thousand is usually the goal but im wondering how some people got their car so low.

I got about 14000 for a down payment and im not trading any car in.

I bought my Fully loaded SX Koup for a little over 20 out the door so those numbers seem a bit high to me. Maybe look at different sealers around u to get the best price. Since you're putting so much money down, your payments r gunna be rly low so either way it's good for u. Good luck man!

Im sure I can talk them down to around 20 maybe a bit more im seeing most dealerships around here about the same price.

Any tactics you use to get them down that far for a fully loaded sx?

Anybody ever use truecar?

Honestly, I don't remember being an opening price. If I remember correctly, my credit situation wasn't great and I basically went with a monthly payment figure and then that seemed to make out the price of the car but when it was all said and done, it was just over 20. It depends on your region, the desperate-ness (for the lack of a better word) of the dealer and credit and down payment. If u went to a dealer and told them u have 14 to put down and tell them exactly what YOU want, if your credit is good or great, im sure you'll get what u want. Try and get them to throw in some stuff like oil changes for 3 or 5 yrs and/or an iPod cable and cargo net. Some of the little stuff they can just throw in.

Truecar will probably work but you can also get this information from Edmunds which will also factor in the rebates. You can see what the final sales figure will be that others are paying. I view that as a reasonable deal and you don't need to negotiate. You can print it out and lay it on the table and if he doesn't meet the price you can walk out and go to another dealer. 99 times out of a 100 he will take the deal since he knows you have researched the price. $14,000 is a very good down payment but you might not need that much. You might consider if any additional low financing is available and invest your money in securities or higher yielding instruments and work off the bank's money. That depends on your credit worthiness. The better your credit score the lower your rate. Credit is not bad if you use it wisely. However, if one is in hock up to their eyeballs with credit cards maxed out they are courting disaster. You seem to be in the driver's seat. Good luck!

I have excellent credit and I know Kia is offering low APR right now.

Im printing cars specced out the same price as they are on the dealership site with and without incentives.

Funny enough the dealership im planning to go tomorrow is listed on truecars site and it states that the dealership would honor this price. How does this work? Im printing out pricings that are 2000 dollars cheaper then invoice how is it possible that the dealer would honor this price.

Djnardu, where do you live?

The price of the vehicle significantly depends in what area of the US you buy (if you live in Canada, I have no advice)

Example:

Vehicle Inventory Search - Denver dealer in Greeley Colorado - New and Used dealership Fort Collins Boulder Greeley Colorado

@ this KIA dealership (in Colorado), a 2011 KOUP EX is being sold for $15,987 and a SX at $18,211

New Kia Forte Koup For Sale Lincolnwood Chicago IL - Grossinger Kia

@ this KIA dealer (Illinois) an SX is being sold below $20k....

New 2011 Kia Dealer in Portland | Rio, Sorento, Optima, Forte, Soul, Sportage, or Sedona

and @ this KIA Dealer (Oregon) the cheapest KOUP is priced at $23,480 (ouch!!!)

If you are willing to buy in another state, then you can save some money, but the added cost to transport the vehicle back to your house will bring the total cost back to what you were looking at originally near home (plus other DMV fees and other misc. fees) ... unless you decide to drive the car back home (road trip!!!) you will then need to factor in the air plane ticket to get to the dealer, hotel, gas, etc. and the wear/tear on the car.

Edit:

So in conclusion, the reason why you see different prices for the same car is because we don't all live in the same area.

I got a fully loaded sx koup for 16.5...18.5 after tax and title. Go to capitalone.com and look for thier blank check program. Automatic $2k off if you use there dealerships. Then of course Kia wants them to use their credit company so they'll try to lower it a little more. Either way you're getting a discount

Never, ever, negotiate in terms of a monthly payment.

Heck don't even negotiate in person. Just contact various dealers by email in a 100+mile radius(however long of a 1 time road trip you're willing to take to save some $$). Then get them in a bidding war with each other. The fleet/internet sales guys usually don't play games because they know you're sitting right there at the computer getting market value prices from edmunds and other dealers. You are very handicapped in person at one dealer.

How is that possible? Some possible reasons.

1) The rebate is about $1,000 right now.

2) The dealer has a 3% holdback they can use.

3) Further incentives if they sell a certain number of cars each month. They may get several thousand dollars incentive if they say sell 50 cars a month so they eat the difference by swinging the deal they need.

4) Possibly a loss leader item.

5) They get additional incentives if the car is financed through Kia credit. You can get this if you finance a certain amount and keep it open for 90 days or so. Then simply pay it off and the dealer gets the incentive.

I'm sure there are additional discounts and incentives we don't know about. Just enjoy your savings. Some other poor sap will wind up paying full sticker because he doesn't know any better. It evens out.

Thanks alot

I got the call from the dealership today and let them know i'd probably be in to check out the car today.

I really hope they honor the price "like the site says their supposed to" If I can get a pretty loaded SX for a little over 18000 would be amazing.

That means with my down payment I would only have to finance $4000.

Ill let you know if I buy a car today and if the truecar pricing works.

I got mine. 2010 Koup SX manual, with sunroof. for 18,600 OTD. this included the 6% PA tax and all the fees for titles and registration. so i worte a check for 18,600 and drove off with it in my name.

It wasn't easy, took me 2 month of research, then i closed the deal in less than half an hour. so just do you're research in advance, try all the dealerships. (it also works to call dealership saying that you have an offer for xxxxx from YYY dealership, and ask if they can do better for that color) My sticker price for mine was 19,500 + 1500 in tax and fees

2011 Koup SX

$17,620 including $200 for locating it

if they had it in stock, it would've been 17,420 before tax and all the other junk

im gonna be financing it for 60 months, 3.94% for $293/month
paying off early won't have penalty so im going to do that

i used zag/consumer reports/amex but its all really zag
