i recently written off my 2014 fg xr6t (447kw), and was given a cerato rental to run around in for 4 weeks and fell in love, so i puchased the GT. I've always been ford falcon guy, and and saying that my 84 falclcon, has the socket for lights , but came with no bulbs, but you can insert them yourselves. I've done this 5 times with out issuse with my other falcons, until the cerato, no provisions or plugs for lights.I'm find this to be a thing about kia. So i tried the drivers pillars with the plug unplugged the harness and they stayed on.I tried tapping into the dome light, though even after the lights have fade, the red still has power, I has 2 yellow and black wires in the dome harness, with no power from the yellows. So very confused. thanks

I haven't done this on my Forte so I can't help you there, sorry.

I tried researching this before. because I also wanted to add footwell lights when the doors are opened. but could not find an answer.

The door switches apparently are in the hinge area - I don't want to disassemble the car to make it work...:)

yeah, there's clearly nothing marked on the interior fuse panel to quote lights ( unkess its under something else, but if its out in the engine fuse box, thats a too big a job and would need a few days . What has me seiously confused, i can find the power runng to the dome light, though when the lights fade out, the power feeding is still live. just feels right odd to me.the othe 2 yllow wires in this harness are yellow and seem be to my suspect ), but there is just black, and i've riden that of as an earth.

ok, so we have a plan, since the car has no door switch or provisions for footwell lights. I even rang up kia, they didnt even know how the door lights turn on, so i'm gonna go mad custom. there are 3 blanking plugs near the door hinges when you open the door. the top 2 give access to a nut, and bolt piece. but the lower , goes straight through to the foot well. i will get replacement blanking caps if i fail. So, the plan is to put a one wire door switch in this blanking hole, doing my best to keep any water out ( i might use sickaflex to give a water tight seal, cause i'll drill through the blanking plug but reinforce's it with washes on the back. i'll use one one those double up plugs in the under dash fuse box( that the pad says it's spare, but it still has power). So the power will be fed from the fuse panel to the led, but when the door opens, it will earth out and turn the light on in the footwell light area. i will to have drill a hole in the hinge area to earth the door switch, put sickaflex around it and glue a blanking plate over it to tidy the area up, so no water gets in.(obviously a high priority ) and just like that i will have footwell lights for the drivers side. So, obviously the will work independently from the rest of the lights, and i just want the lights there so i can see whats at my feet. if this all goes well for a few months, will also do it for the front passenger seat, but will need a bit more wire. there wont be a rush to do it. not a big job , just a lot of little thing to do.

Well, we went back in time and used the same set-up for earlier cerato's where the door light switch was on the middle pillar, that earths is the door switch, and piggbackedbacked of a spare fuse for the power. yes, you are 100%correct , they wont fade off in time , like the roof lights, but will only work directly when the door is opened, and will shut off when the door is closed, i have the to do the passengers side, but i will just hook that up to the power for the drivers door, and find an earth somewhere. very happy with final result

when i drilled through the middle pillar, there was 3 sheets of metal to get through. the middle sheet was at least a good 2mm - 3mm thick. i had had to make a 12mm hole for the switch to fit all the way through the pillar, and a small hole below to earth it to the car. i just had to pop off the kickpanel, side panel and interal lower pillar panels. everything was just wire and connect. The only frustration i had was having to drill through the middle pillar. took a quick 60 mins to do, so happy with the result. and yes, i know i need a new driver door seal............

As mentioned, i'm not going to bother with putting a door switch on the passenger front, just run the the power for the drivers door to the front passenger footwell, and earth it somewhere. so basically, opening my drivers door turns the footwell lights on/off with just the drivers door, but controls the passengers footwell light also. quick job.........

And then there were two................nuff said. if anyones interested, these are the globes i use, they have 3m tape, but i use a few dabs of sikaflex to secure them in place forever...i know these also come in red light. And I'm not the slightest bit interested in putting footwell lights for the back seats.
