Year:2021
Make:Kia
Model:Forte
Mileage:39000 M
Transmission:Manual
Engine:2.0L MPI
Trim:FE

I'm considering selling my 2021 Kia Forte FE.

I bought it brand new with 33 miles on it in April of 2021. In the two years I've owned it, I've put just under 40k miles on it. It's been a great, reliable car, but I have too many cars and something needs to go.

Interior is still like new - no scrapes, scuffs, worn seats, anything like that.
Exterior has a few minor scratches - one on the back fender, and a couple on the rear bumper. Easy to touch up, but I haven't gotten around to it. Other than that, it's also like new.

Under my ownership, I've installed:
  • Evilla Motorsports strut bar
  • Pierce Motorsports lower tie bar
  • Powerflex Yellow lower engine mount
  • Powerflex yellow upper engine mount insert
  • Powerflex purple upper transmission mount insert
  • Boomba short throw shifter
  • SXTH Element shifter cable end link bushings
  • Sound deadining material in doors, on door panels, under rear seats, on trunk floor, underside of trunk lid, and under rear shelf.

  • 17x7 Enkei J10 wheels with 225/45R17 Sumitomo HTR A/S P03 tires
    • Like new tires, no curb rash or anything like that on the wheels
  • Factory steelies with Continental VikingContact 7 winter tires
    • Tires have 2 winters on them, and likely have 2-3 more winters left in them. One steel wheel has a slight bend, but not enough to cause issues.

You can read through everything I've done to the car and my ownership journey here.

Thanks for looking! PM if you have any questions or want additional photos

No, I was never better than you GT folks with turbos to begin with lol, and I really don’t want to get rid of it. But having 3 cars when you’re 20 gets really expensive, and this being the one that’s actually worth something (and the one I have the least sentimental attachment to), it’s first on the list of potential cars to go. If it turns out to also not be worth a whole lot (did the theft thing kill the resale value?), then I’ll keep it too and just start working my ass off more than I already am

When I was 20 in 1999 (now I feel old) I had a lot of cars too, (72 Chevy 4x4, 90 5.0 mustang, 64 falcon v8 4speed and a 1987 crx) i invested every dime and free moment I had into them, the truck was a concourse truck and the mustang could show up to any show and shine and keep up with the Jones’s. What’s my point? I have nothing to show for it now. I sold them off through my 20s and never recovered anything close to what I have invested. I wish I kept them, but I also wish I kept all the money I wasted too. All hindsight. Whatever you are into now at 20 I guarantee you won’t be into in your 40s so fuck it... do what’s responsible if you actually have self control, they are just cars, if you want to keep your volvos and rover then do it. If someone buys your Kia make sure you send them this way.

Yeah it's a difficult decision. The Forte is the best car I have - it's new, it's reliable, it's good on gas, and it's fun. It's also worth ~$20k if AutoTrader comps are anything to go on, and that's a lot of money. My Volvos aren't worth much (the V70 I bought for $800 and is still a project, and the V50 needs some work for me to be comfortable selling it at a price that makes sense), so selling either doesn't made sense, at least for now, and I've grown quite fond of the old-school feel of the V70. The Rover is more of a sentimental thing - it's fully camper converted, which I did over the course of 8 months or so about 2.5 years ago with my dad as a father-son project, so I don't want to get rid of it for that reason. It also wouldn't make financial sense in its current state, since it's currently parked due to it needing a new transmission and some other odds and ends. That leaves the Kia, and with the money I can get selling it, I can fix the one Volvo, sell it too, and use all that money to fix the Rover and make the V70 perfect.

Yes, if I sell the Kia I will certainly send the new owner over here. It's only listed here for now, in part because I'm hoping it goes to an enthusiast that will enjoy it as much as did and contribute to the community

So I decided to me nosy and see that a 21 fe manual goes for on the market.. kinda rare car. Out of the 500 Kia fortes that came up only 3 matched your car and one was listed wrong. There are a lot of people out there that will never consider owning a turbo car and this appears to be the only way to get a manual forte with an N/A motor.

Yeah they're pretty hard to find. My search turned up under 12 manual FEs in the entire US from 2021, and under 40 for all 3 model years. I think this car was supposed to be the cheap base car that gets you in the door with a low advertised starting price and they weren't actually supposed to really make them. However in doing so they unintentionally created one of the sweetest drivetrain combinations of any modern car I've driven. Revs super fast, easy rev match, zero rev hang, and short gearing.

Would be sad to see it go! I’m sorta in a similar situation, 21 and got two cars. My forte is my daily, and the Focus is my project car. If I needed a large some of money, I would sell my Forte too, because my focus isn’t worth much. However, my $.02 is keep the Forte if you can, and get rid of/store one of your projects for the time being. I think you would miss not having a nice and reliable daily (I would because I have a long highway commute). Also think about how much time/money you are putting into the projects and if they are really worth it. I have a budget on what I can spend per month on mine. Do what is best for you though, everyone’s situation is different, just wanted to shed some light on mine!

Bump!

Hey @2023BD, complete your 3rd gen collection with the only optional drivetrain not currently in your fleet

Before I bought my 23 GT 6spd I was looking for a used 2.0 6spd to fill the void left behind by the Saturn SW2 5spd I sold. They barely existed and any I found was too close to the price of a new GT 6spd. I was going to buy the 2.0 6spd for the fuel mileage but I was surprised when I ended up getting 30-35 everyday with my GT.

Keep the newer car and get rid of the older stuff. I've been where you were at 20 some years ago. In around 5 years the Forte will still be reasonably reliable.

Nice car tbh. I had the exact same thing before I got my GT bought it for 20k new I was kinda thinking you were asking way too much for it at 19,500 with almost 40k on it but after looking at what you put into it, I think it’s a fair price, you’ll get that all day with some time if you haven’t already sold it

Pulled the mods and sold it to Carvana. I had gotten zero messages over the two weeks I had it listed on all the popular sites. Carvana pays pretty well and the process couldn’t be easier, so that’s the route I took. Bummed to see it go, but it was the right choice

Mid 17s. Not bad considering the ease and the fact that I paid barely $1k more than that for it brand new 2 and a half years and nearly 40k miles ago

No it’s not😂 it’s the most reliable vehicle brand you can own with a price tag less than everything else. People buy Elantra N and think they drive a Ferrari. You don’t have to be 12 to own a Camry

#22 ·
I mean everyone has their own taste but I’ve never seen anybody upset driving a trd Camry. Sounds nasty, fast as hell stock and is super nasty with tunes. Meanwhile I have a 2022 Kia Forte GT and regret every second of my decision with the amount of problems I’ve had with this car and f-ing sensor issues

Lol then sell it
Modern Toyotas are sh!t, and there’s at least 2 people on here that agree with me, because it’s true. You’re just mad you couldn’t afford the payments with your 560 credit score

Who says I’m even mad? What kind of man can’t even have a simple disagreement without getting butthurt anymore. Simmer down a little, you’re taking this way too far😂 i have my own opinion and you have yours. I’m not putting you down for not liking a Toyota but you started this with “what am I 12?” You’ve sounded childish since the beginning… so who’s mad?

#25 ·
As for my credit score…😂 I have a fucking 2020 Denali 2500hd that was 50k I own a Kia forte gt and my wife owns a Kia k5 gt… my credit is great enough and we make great money

Lady at work has has a 2019 TRD...it's a POS! I drove it one day and was not impressed with it especially considering their cost. Didn't "feel" that quick too me either even though it has a lot more power than our GTs. I'll take my GT2 DCT over it any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Yeah modern Toyotas are crap. My mom had a '15 4Runner. Rust issues in 3 years, infotainment glitches, and interior build quality issues that meant I was constantly putting trim and seats back together after they fell apart. Abysmal for a company that prides itself on quality.

I've rented several 2021, 2022 Camry's they are not that bad. Nothing special and not all consumer reports hypes them up to be but certainly ok. While they do ride better then my Forte they are not any quieter inside. Still baffles me that consumer reports thinks the Forte is noisy.

Have purchased 3 camrys new and all of them came standard with upper door ventilation (air leaks). My Kia did not have this option.

My mom's 4Runner was Japanese made. Made no difference to the quality unfortunately

Maybe. People seem to love them for some reason. Then again, my dad's old 100-series suffered a lot of big failures in relatively low mileage (whole adjustable suspension went out twice, alternator went, rusted through AC lines, etc). His old Tundra had constant 4WD issues - he fixed it 7 times before he gave up and drove it in 2wd for a few years before the tin worm took it out and the diff casing rusted through
