Leased a forte hatchback EX 6speed manual transmission in titanium gray color.

It's been good so far, other than some mishaps such as
1: shifting to 3rd instead of 1st at light and stalling the car
2: forgetting to put in gear starting on a hill and rolling backwards engine revving at 3000 rpms
3: stalling the car b/c 1st manual transmission car
etc etc

still alive though. did the throttle mod in the diy section to reduce dead zone and it's much better in starting in 1st. i've been having to shift from 1st to 2nd gear right after starting just so i don't jerk forward.

WELCOME!!! Hope you are enjoying your F O R T E. I also had the same issue shifting into 3rd instead of 1st, just remember to move the shifter all the way to the left before putting it in gear. My Forte is also my 1st manual trans car (but I learned in another car, 89 miata). This transmission isn't newbie friendly, so it will take some time to get used to it. The throttle mod does help a lot, especially in the 6 speeds.

I hear ya. My last 2 cars were stick (GM's) mind ya, huge difference in the clutch feel, plus still getting used to the VERY touchy gas pedal. Almost made me feel like a newbie at drivin stick. LOL But had her for about 2 wks now and pretty much got the hang of it. What's this "throttle mod" you speak of?

What a coincidence, I'm also a novice with a manual LX version. I have the 2011 with a 6 speed and I also have trouble modulating the clutch correctly. I have gotten to the point where I'm only killing it once a day instead of four or five times a day. :D

I am intrigued about this throttle mod as well. How much did it cost and do you know if it would void the warranty?

I hope you are enjoying your new Forte as much as I am.

it's this one, right here in our own forum

http://www.forteforums.com/forums/do-yourself-articles/1342-best-throttle-mod-ever.html

basically what it does is, it returns the throttle position sensor to where it's supposed to be, so the throttle gets an instant response.

as far as the warranty's concerned, i'm not sure. but all it does is provide a countermeasure for a faulty workmanship from factory, and i think as long as the sensor is set so the idle rpm's remain the same, it shouldn't be a problem.

read through the thread, you'll find instances of people doing the mod, but setting the throttle sensor too forward that it reads as throttle is open during idle, which is what you don't want i think.

update:

I have been driving my car for almost a month now, and I thought about making a list of my impression

Forte 5-door EX 6speed m/t in Titanium

Likes:
1. Satellite Radio: it's very nice to have music on demand and not have to change stations every hour when I am driving across country. This is something i'll make sure to have in all my future cars

2. Airbags: the car has more airbags (6) than it has capacity for passengers (5), which is good i think. I have yet to see them in action though. ^^

3. Trunk space: A given for most hatchbacks, but I like the way the seats pop up and fold forward before the back support folds down, giving me a flat trunk.

4. Auto door locks: When I drive over 10mph the doors lock by themselves. vey nice feature.

5. Front reading lights and vanity mirror lights: Not that I'd be doing any reading while driving or staring at my face, but it's a nice touch to this car.

6. Trunk hatch opening handle: IDK why but the hatch handle is nice.

7. Styling: The front is well above average for cars in the segment (compared to civic, mazda etc etc) but the rear is very nice. Also, the overall shape, side profile is very nice.

8. Cruise control: maintains speed very well. I've driven cars that accelerate going down hills and slow down going up, but this one maintains speed very well.

Dislikes:
1. Touchy accelerator: I have gotten more used to it now, but I wish it was a bit smoother.

2. Shift from 1-2: feels like my shift lever is made of stick and it just snapped, unless I shift very slowly.

That's it.
