Hi. I have a 2012 Kia Forte Ex Sedan 2.0L. I’m currently in the process of figuring out why it’s throwing two codes (P0261 & P0301) hesitating when accelerating, idoling super rough & starting hard. I replaced fuel injectors last Friday before work, new ignition coils will be in this Friday. After spending many hours going thru the forums & researching I came across a discussion that ultimately came down to a bad gas cap. Could a not clicking to lock gas cap be a possible cause of the issues I’m currently having? I would greatly appreciate & be so thankful for any guidance u might have.

Yep. Cheapest way to possibly solve that issue, and if your current cap isn't clicking I'm willing to bet that's your issue. You can grab a gas cap for like $5 on Amazon.

The 2 codes you are seeing are:

A quick way to verify if the spark plug or coil is the problem is to to swap the coils and spark plugs of #1 cylinder with the #4 cylinder. If the code changes to a P0304 then the plug or coil would be the culprit for sure.

When were the spark plugs last replaced?

A loose gas cap will set a code (like P0440, P0441 or P0450) for incorrect or low emission system pressure.

Let us know how you fare after replacing the coils.

Sounds like injector is probably causing the misfire on cylinder 1. That's where I'd start. Injector can cause misfire codes as well as injector codes, but a misfire from coil or plug won't cause injector codes.

I replaced all 4 fuel injectors last Friday. The gas cap that actually clicks as there supposed to definitely helped. I’ll be replacing ignition coils Friday, if that doesn’t fix the issue I’ll be checking the spark plugs I replaced in August last year as well as checking the injector wiring harness, connectors & ground.
Thank you all for your guidance & time. I appreciate it more than you all know.

I have a 2016 Forte 1.8
Had several nuisance codes last year.
The new gas cap seemed to be the answer.
And disconnecting the --- battery terminal for a while.

I also installed MAP sensor, purge valve, PCV valve.
The MAP and PCV were non-Kia parts, from Rockauto. Last night, I reinstalled the original MAP, to clear p0172.
And reinstalled original (88,000 miles) PCV. The replacement PCV was a skosh too small, and wouldn't tighten, as if it was "stripped".
Hoping the p0452 stays away 😐

First were you getting both codes before you replaced the injectors? Second is the locking tab on the injector plug intact and securely locked? If it's not it can cause an intermittent loss of signal to injector. It really sounds like the problem at this point is the plug or wiring to injector. Bad gas cap usually will through a code for vacuum loss/emissions like P0442, P0455 or P0456.

New gas cap definitely helped unfortunately didn’t take care of the problem. I went ahead & just installed the new ignition coils my dumb🤬🤬🤬 should have done it anyway when I put new plugs in. I had already done the ignition coil test (swapping) last weekend so I knew that wasn’t the problem. Picking up a MAP sensor tomorrow to the tune of 100.!! OUCH Where is the location of the MAP sensor? Praying to God it fix’s the problem this car has eaten up all of my food plus money in the last 2 weeks. You all have been so so helpful. I wholeheartedly can say THANK YOU enough!😊😊😊😊😊

I was just curious as to if it could still be my MAP sensor when the car is cold seems to idle & accelerate fine. However when it warms up it starts shuddering, idle rough & hesitating on acceleration.
Without being able to diagnose your car we can only make educated guesses. I hope the MAP sensor takes care of your problem(s). On Kias with MAP sensors the MAP is THE fuel controlling device - if it is bad it makes a lot of problems often leading to people thinking the fuel system is the culprit.

Well it is now sounding like the intermitent problems I've had that turned out to be the MAP sensor.

Do you have a OBDII scan tool?

No, but I dang sure will tomorrow. I’m starting to think she’s a serious hormonal 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬! LOL She’s giving me a headache! Just filled her up & besides a hard start she’s purring like a kitten. Does it take some time for (sensitive sally Kia) her new name to adjust to new parts?

Should take no time - if a bad part gets replace (not one that requires ECM upgrades or relearns) it should fix the problem immediately.

Having a OBDII scanner will allow you to find out what is going on as soon as the CEL lights.

Good Luck!

Going to install the MAP sensor today is there any do’s, don’t or take a look at while it’s off that I should be aware of? I have read on here to make sure I unhook the battery before changing it out. Approximately how long does it take for the system to adjust to it?

Disconnecting the battery any time you work on electrical components is the smart thing to do. This prevents an "oops" from becoming burnt items...:)

Never had adjustment periods after installing a MAP - I do run an "erase" function with my OBDII scanner to clear all codes and start fresh. While changing your MAP pay attention to all the vacuum lines coming off the intake manifold for cracks/leaks and replace if necessary.

Let us know your outcome.

Good Luck.
