i know that the 2.0t genesis coupe is a theta engine so one can/would believe that the turbo parts for that vehicle should bolt on with maybe some modification? has anyone looked into this?

Probably cause nobody knows. I believe this topic has already been brought up also.

Even though it's the same engine, it would be difficult to determine what changes were made to it and can those changes even be made to our Theta engine within a price that would be worth it? Probably not.

Are they indeed the SAME theta engine?

If they are, home brew kits can be made. Genesis manifold/turbo, custom make a downpipe and intake then get some tuning. Done.

Also, if they are, that is a little more sense of security in my mind for the strength of the motor. Once i'm caught up on bills i want to do a nitrous setup, and I have seen the 2.0 genesis motors take upwards of 300 whp reliably.

It's not exactly the same engine. The 2.0 in the Forte only has variable valve timing on the intake. The engine in the Genesis Coupe has variable timing on both the intake and exhaust valves. I remember reading about this on some Singapore based forum where tuners were looking to mod the engine. It was also mentioned as well on the TV show Motoring when they were reviewing the Forte and Koup. Basically our stock 2.0 engines produce 156 hp. With CVVT added to the exhaust valve, hp goes to 166 plus gives a broader power band. The turbo in the Genesis Coupe does the rest.

I am just glad the bottom end is pretty much the same, which means the TK.com kit will safely make more power, as we won;t have to worry about nitrous setups either, properly tuned of course.

Also, there is a great bit of room in the back of the bay, so bolting up a stock gen coupe header or any aftermarket exhaust manifold would be fairly easy, since the only difference in the heads being the VVT on the exhaust cam like you said.

I am now even more excited about the car, even though I don;t have the funds to quite have fun with it yet lol.

Is the exhaust mani similar in Gen coupe and Forte?!?!? The engine is mount differently in both car so I suspect they will be quite different!
they won;t have the same factory exhaust manifold.

If the only difference is vvt on the exhaust cam, that means the exhaust ports and stud pattern on the head are the same. So we can take the gen coupe manifold/turbo and bolt it on (i am certain there is enough room) then have a downpipe and intake setup fabricated.

Next thing i want to look up is the factory oil system lines for the gen coupe turbo to see how it is drained back into the block. If the engines are the same, then we should have this flange/attachment for oil drain on our block. If not then there are theta II blocks with and without that oil drain attachment for the turbo lines.

most companys dont change little things to keep cost down. i assume that the manifold should bolt on.... why make more part #'s if u can share parts keeps cost down. the most simple thing to do is compair exhaust gaskets to see if they line up on hell even have the same part number.

most stock turbo manifolds are a log style so you would have to make a custom down pipe to fit it.


i seen that companys make forged piston sets of it too

it's probably the same shape, but a different material to handle the higher temps.

I am about to be 4DoorForte on Gencoupe.com LOL.

ok so while you guys do the research i would be attemptin to pull 320 to the wheels with my nitrous set up some one has to know the potential of these motors but question i seen the links for the pistons 2.0 but wouldnt it be the same pistons for the 2.4

I believe the 2.4 has a larger bore and stroke so a 2.4 piston will not work.

Please give us update on how your nitrous setup does. I plan to go the same route as you.

I have seen on the genesis forums the stock blocks are reliably take 300+ whp, so that means we should too:)
