Well just bought my SX Koup, and at first wanted the RoadRuns Grille, but after looking at it up close, I can't get around the triangle logo, just doesn't fit the look IMHO

But I got to thinking (probably trouble) and figured for about $50 I could just remove the stock grille, gut the stock plastic mesh in the middle, and replace it with new black aluminum mesh

like this. Then all I'd have to do is relocate the horn like soar4fun did on his Koup.

Thoughts? Ideas? Pearls of wisdom?

Already working on this for mine, as I want a "Badge Delete" look on the front - that emblem is just too darn big, IMO. Trying to source material as close to the stock honeycomb as possible, and it's proving difficult... I can come close, but I want it 'closer'. Pics will follow when complete.

this is acutally what I have been trying to figure out how to do... I just cant find anything like I want. doing a mod to the stock grill is an awsome idea. I thought about buying this http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=30_303_304&products_id=3894 and painting them black. but doing a mod to stock would be better. Also that grill is for the sedan, I am nost sure they fit the koup


is the stock plastic mesh molded into the grill? would you have to cut that out? and if you did that what are your ideas/plans to attach the metal back to the frame?

That link to KAI is what sparked the idea... but I wanted the black center and a larger mesh (ideally the same as the stock, but that is not going to happen). I'll likely end up cutting the back mesh out of the stock, and mounting a metal screen (with a zillion coats of primer and Tremclad!) but the specifics are still being sourced.

You can ask James at KAI if that aftermarket grill fits both.
As an example: The Roadruns Koup grill will fit both the Sedan & Koup.

I want to de-badge the front on my Koup when I get it in the summer and was thinking that if you purchased the lower Koup grill mesh from the dealer $20. (I checked) would it be a close fit maybe with some light mods?

Here is a photoshop that I did. It is exactly what you are trying to do and I think it looks damn sexy on the koup. I also made the corner reflectors silver. LOL.

@oldiesradio Great idea, but my concern is with the curvature of the two, and matching them up. It is certainly one option I'll be exploring, next time I have one on the hoist.

Ya. The problem is that most of the guys here are looking for the stock honey comb look. I think it would look good either way but if there was a stock looking grill, I would prefer the stock look.

Maybe if you change out both top and bottom grills, it might look better.
