HELP!!Fog light install

28787 Views 39 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Toastedforte
I have an EX sedan therefore i do not have Fogs. I just ordered the whole set off of sharkracing.com. Has anyone already did this? Can anyone lead me to a good thread with pictures. I went to a really good one, really in depth but no pictures:confused:
They'll be here end January, if i could get a head start and a feel of things i would feel more comfortable
Thank you

On the stalk the auto just means you can leave it on that and then once it gets to a certain darkness the lights will come on automatically.
I assumed that's what it was for but, They do not come on at all on the setting even at midnight not a light around. So im guessing the problem might be with the stalk?
I took the steering column apart and checked again and nothing seems to be misplaced and everything seems to be hooked up correctly. I also checked every fuse and none are blown. I do have a question though. There is a fog(rr) in the instrument panel fuse box and a fog(fr) in the engine compartment fuse box. We have the wire from the new blinker stalk into the instrument panel fuse box and I was wondering if this is correct or if it should be in the engine compartment fusebox (or if it even makes a difference). Also, I found out that my cruise control switch on the steering doesnt work as well. The cruise wont turn on or anything. I wonder if this is because when I unhooked everything from the steering wheel (audio portion, bluetooth phonecall stuff, and cruisecontrol) the cruise control and audio switches fell out of the steering wheel as I was moving it around. I am wondering if the dropping of the cruise control switch is what caused it to not work anymore. The rest of the steering wheel controls work except the cruise control. I am taking it in tomorrow to a kia dealer and I hope this is all an easy fix. Anyone have any insight on what may be the issue? or if they are able to fix these things the same day? I just dont understand what went wrong. :(

Just a side note: my fogs work and the new stalk is working correctly. The only problems I have are the ESC and airbag lights constantly on and the cruise control not working. After installation, I took my car for a little test drive and since the ESC light is illuminated, the ESC engaged a couple times while driving (accelerating on the road). I've test driven it 5 times today with 30+ miles and the ESC light is still on but hasnt engaged at all.

Your one up on me. Mine haven't worked at all, and i never dropped the steering wheel it sat in the passenger seat the whole time. If you don't mind let me know what you find out at the dealership?

Definitely will, I hope I hear good-ish news haha.
I have Checked all the Fuses, Removed and checked the Steering Wheel assembly, Moved my Grounds around, and Purchased new Bulbs, In theory that only leaves the relay and the stalk itself right? Any Advice is appreciated!
I still think the harness and stalk pins are out of order..it would require you getting yhe schematic for both and double checking each wire pin is correct in each side of the harness. I wish i could be of more help but its real hard to diagnose wiring issues via the net. If i was nearby id cruise over and lens a hand.
Skeeter..do you have and can you use a volt meter? If so start at your power source and work towards the switch. Looking for a loss of power. If you get to the switch go from it towards the lights. Where ever you loose power..back up a lil at a time until ya find the break in power and let us know what ya come up with.

Trainypooh..dropping should not have been a problem but it is possible. I think your problem is related to the location of the wiring pins. I know there was a lil modification required on some harnesses and options on the car. If i get a chance i will try and link some help. But it sounds like your getting it to a shop before i will be able to.

Good luck guys!
I do have a Volt meter wont have the time for about a week. So i should start at the power source, With the supplied harness it goes form Battery positive to relay Between them there is a 20 amp fuse, Relay to supplied connector where it goes thru the firewall, From that plug to the Stalk. From the Stalk it goes to the fuse box on the side of the Dash, and is fused with a 10 Amp. Then back at the relay it has where it branches to the Fog Lights. All most all of it runs together in a plastic Sleeve there are two grounds, One labeled Battery ground, and the other labeled Chassis Ground.
Yep. Start at power and work every connection back towards switch. Etc. It could be a simple bad connection in your case.
Skeeter, are you having any lights illuminated on your instrument cluster like I am? Ex. Airbag and ESC?

I'm at the dealership now, they said that the codes were in the history and should be able to be cleared hopefully except for the airbag light which there may be damage to the wires or harness while I was messing around with it. The guy said that my cruise control wasn't working due to the ESC light being on which totally makes sense. They are still in the process of working on my car, but the major concern is the airbag and hopefully the rest can be cleared up. Keeping my fingers crossed that its an easy fix.

Airbag and ESC have stayed on, that sucks. None of the radio controls work on the steering wheel either, Do you have that problem?
Ok. This thread has all the wiring schematics and harness pin locations in it. Dont worry about it being for the sedan..the koup is the same installation procedure. Double check the harness for your stalk pins are the same as the harness in the column.

Also i would contact shark and see if they are having issues with harness returns. May have got a bad batch.
My audio controls on my steering wheel work. Everything works except the cruise control. The mechanic at the dealership said that he is pretty darn sure that I messed up the clock spring. he said the wires were stretched out and twisted when he checked the airbag. (I didn't disconnect the airbag when i installed the turn signal stalk). I just ordered a new clock spring and he thinks that will take care of all of the problems. The ESC and airbag lights are still currently on (due to the clock spring, potentially) and because the ESC light remains on, my cruise control wont work. He said that he would bet that a new clock spring would fix all of the issues.

The clock spring made me feel like an Idiot, I went to remove it an broke the tab from it i was unable to break it free so I broke the connector off inside it. Got on Ebay and bought another one for 26 dollars it got here 23 days later (with the car sitting inoperable the whole time) Tried to put it in and it had one wire instead of two. Went to Kia the next day and got the only one on their shelves for $75. Put it back in very carefully as I did not want to replace it again. But if that is what fixes yours I guess I will need another one. Let me know if you don't mind
I have an appointment scheduled for this friday. I'll update you on how it goes! :)

So the new clock spring solved all of my problems. My ESC and airbag lights are off and my cruise control works! I hope this will solve your issues too Skeeter!
