Hesitation / Surging?

I have a 2021 Forte GT DCT with ~18,000 miles on it and I have noticed engine hesitation/surging lately. This has never happened before the last few weeks, its completely new. It hesitates during acceleration if I am not giving it a lot of gas, when trying to slowly or smoothly accelerate at slow speeds, such as from a stop, I get lots of hesitation. I have tested this on cold start and also waiting for the engine to heat up in both smart and normal mode. I changed my oil and oil filter and checked the air filter. I had the car OBD scanned and the computer is not giving me any codes. I haven't seen any leaks under the car so I am really at a loss for what is happening. The only thing I could do next is take it to the dealer.

Don't hesitate to take your car to the dealer if you feel something is wrong. A simple OBD scanner will not provide info - but the dealer's computer tools are way more advanced and can view pending codes, or they can see diagnostic information, that might give them the solution.

Does this occur often enough that you are sure the dealer will observe/feel it? I ask this because if you take it to a dealer and they diagnose the car but can't find anything wrong, or recreate the problem, there is nothing that they can do - and this could leave you frustrated.

What has helped people - who have posted about their car's problems on this site - is they video recorded the problem(s) and showed it to the Service Department when they took their car in.

Good luck and please let us know the outcome.

Are you using top tier gas with fuel line cleaners in it?
Run a tank of good 93 through it and see if it clears up
Perhaps a bottle of Heet?

BEFORE YOU START TAKE YOUR FORTE TO THE DEALERSHIP IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY!

*Check the ignition coil pack/s.
*Check the iridium spark plugs & each gap.
*Dirty, gooped, slugded or the electronic butterfly door is off sync.
*Fuel pump?
*Dirty clogged fuel injectors?

Yes, even new items can & will fail.

Let us know what the cause & fix was. It helps.

anything on this yet? My 2020 with 72,000 just started doing this today. I put a bottle of Techron in it which I just did last month as well. It will be fine and then when you hit the gas after letting it warm up even, it will hesitate and redline and then finally start going, but not as fastly as it should. Closest dealer is around 50 miles away so driving it there isn't very comfortable at the moment. If it's a sensor, it won't be covered by warranty due to miles. I definitely hear ticking coming from the right side of the engine facing it. I took off the cover and can feel where it's coming from but I can't seem to find an engine diagram

That sounds like it might be an internal issue. Dealer time! (At some point anyway). Also, wouldn’t engine-related sensors be covered under the 10 year/100k powertrain warranty?
Had it scanned and threw a clutch code on the automatic. The light stayed off and the issue never replicated even when driven with the scanning tool on. Will probably schedule it to get a once over with the Kia dealer
code P0805 is what it threw. misaligned clutch position sensor. definitely calling the kia dealer to schedule even though it's operating correctly now
Thanks for telling us what you found! Could help someone down the line.
When we took it into the Kia dealer, they said nothing was wrong and charged us $100 for looking at it. On top of that, even though we had an appointment, they took 2 days to look at it. What's the point of an appointment then. Since then it was acting fine until the other day when it started again, but didn't throw a check engine light. At this point we started the process of trading it in for a Honda Civic, at least their dealership is local and actually cares when servicing. Already traded in my 2022 for a Accord Hybrid to be better on gas. Love the way the Forte drives, but what good is a warranty they won't honor or service in a timely manner
unfortunately the car was put in reverse the other day and struggled to get into drive. Got it back in the driveway and since there was a check engine light on, we couldn't really trade it in at the amount they appraised it at. We had it towed to a different Kia dealer and they opened a case with Kia techs. They were told to reset the computer and that didn't clear things up, so now we are awaiting the next step. At this point if nothing much is done to resolve the problem, we will move forward with trading it for the Civic. If they actually find what's the culprit and fix it under the powertrain warranty or it's not a small fortune to fix otherwise, we will probably keep it. The steering TSB they won't cover so we will deal with the sound as it steers fine. Not bashing the Fortes, just the service the dealers provide and will keep everyone posted in case it happens to someone else
after a few days of back and forth from the dealership to Kia techs, it was ruled to replace the DCT actuator. Doesn't sound cheap as they are trying to get it covered under the powertrain warranty with approval from Kia since it has 72000 miles on it and I'm the original owner. Fingers crossed

Well Kia is covering the repair but unfortunately the part showed up and it won’t reprogram to the vehicle so the dealership is at a loss now. It’s been there a full week now and we’re no closer to having a drivable car. I wish it had waited a few more weeks to act up and we could have traded it in for a new Civic but now we’re stuck waiting this out and hoping it continues to be covered and fixes the issue permanently
