In case people don't get it still, if you wan HIDs, here's what you need to order:

For Low Beams: H11 35W HID Kit (color of your choice)

For Fog Lights: 880 or 881 35W HID Kit (color of your choice)


Don't get High Beams, but if you insist:

H1 HID kit (35W or 55W)

 

Perfect thread. I have been holding off on this mod until I could see the whole process. I have both kits for lows and fogs in my cart waiting to pull the trigger. I have one last question. Has anyone established a point of contact at DDM for us to get a discount? My basket is sitting at 85 bucks but every dollar saved is a dollar towards another mod.

and in case i didn't mention it, the easiest way to the fogs is


go under the car (no need to jack it up, but it does make your life easier if its on ramps.)

under the front end infront of each tire are 3 plastic clips, remove them

bend the plastic cover back (don't worry, it's flexible enough)

and stick your hand in there and reach for the bulb

 

Just a heads up,


The Fog light Bulb is a PITA to get out, dont be pissed if you have to take out the whole assembly (4 screws i think)


My driver side was a PITA

my passenger side was easy.


and another way to do it on the driver side is by reaching down after removing the headlight. (only works on driver side)

Oh and I already had the whole front end off and back on today in less than 45 minutes. its SOOOO easy. Took it off to get the grills out to send the lower off to G&M Performance. easy enough that I would do it again just to get to the fogs.

 

will HID's work in my tailights too and will they void the warranty back there?

I'd like to add something to the installation:

Learn from my mistake. My H11 kit came w/ a socket on the end. i removed the spades from the socket and just plugged in as shown. Mistake was that i did not insulate the spades. As you can see in the original post the spades have black shrink wrap around the base of the spades. Mine did not have this. The spades shifted and contacted each other and caused the fuse in the engine compartment to blow.

So in the installation add some red colored shrink wrap tubes and insulate from the wire to the "teeth" on the spades. Save yourself the headache.

 

I'll make sure to add this to the original thread. where was your kit from?

ORDER FROM DIODEDYNAMICS SILLY!!! not only are they forum sponsors...apparently they are easier to instal and don't foul up as much as DDM. that and they give you a discount on your next purchase...aka switchbacks!! So all I have to say is....DUH!!! lol

 

I got the slim ballast....cause it came with it, and mine was here in 2 days! but all I'm saying is everyone keeps having a bulb go out or bad ballast with DDM. I haven't seen one complaint about DD's kit. I'll pay extra for convience!

 

MY DDM tuning came with Spadesss, it was easyyyyyyyyyyyyy to install. and it was cheap. and good ( i got the slim kit)

Glad you cleared that up.... I've been wasting HOURS trying to Google "DiodeDynamics Silly" and couldn't seem to find it.......

Truthfully, this is one of the best DIY threads that I have seen on here. But.... didn't anyone else install a Wolo BigBoy horn like I did? Or the KIA Factory Remote Start like I did? sigh.......

 

being smart??? and if you feel like showing off your "mods" might as well start a thread to discuss it, or maybe contribute and create a DIY.

and people did install horns, and made clever DIY. (Hella Horn is the first to come to mind).

and as for the remote start, people got way better ones than the factory one. i think "TheBeast67" has the "compustar drone mobile" that you start it with your phone.

I'm one of the few/first to get a remote start (crimestopper) on a manual transmission.

 

So I don't have to get the Wiring Harness if I'm installing the 35w on the lowbeams? Also about the Harness, is it the Error eliminator or the HID Harness if I do need it or should get it. I just want to make sure before I order them. Nice write up! can't wait to get these in!

 

I have a 55w HID on my low beam/high beam and fog, no one have wiring harness and everything works great!

 

The harness is only to increase the wire gauge. Since our stock bulbs run @ 55W they aren't necessary, but sometimes HID's draw higher currents when igniting and warming up. It's more a safety factor than anything but IMO not necessary on these cars.

Hey I just got mine and had the plastic covering as well. I used a dremel and a small screwdriver to get the thing off. There's a small piece of plastic holding the spade in place and is damn near impossible to just pull out...

First I pulled the red insulators on the bottom of the plastic cover down the wire to get them out of the way with small needle-nose pliers.

Then after realizing i couldn't just pull the darn wires out..

I cut down the middle of the plastic cover (avoiding the spades) on both sides and the across the cover right below the wider top part. My goal was to try and remove as much of the top plastic as possible to see what was holding the spades in place.

After I got the top of the plastic removed, you'll have the spades sticking out of the lower end of the remainder of plastic. You can then see a little stub of plastic sitting next to each spade. Shove a very small/thin screwdriver down the side of the spade that has the piece of plastic until the screwdriver starts to go through and then the wire with spade intact will pop out.


I'm hoping there's an easier way to do it. This way is a little messy/half-assed but it worked with the product fully intact.

Now to find some small gauge heat shrink tubing...

That's a whole lotta trouble when all you had to do was stick a small screwdriver or knife in there to release the tabs.

 

haha I figured. I did try to just get the screwdriver in there to release the tabs, but regardless of how far down I got it they just wouldn't release.

Oh well, I guess I learned something new
