Last wednesday, I signed the contract and purchased KIA forte Koup 2011 Titanium Silver.

They said it would take me 4~5 days and I will get a car on tuesday at last... And, they call me today and they said my primary choice is not available in Canada, so they have to order from South Korea which would take 3~6 weeks!!!!!!!!

This is my first car and I am paying by myself with financing...

I couldn't sleep well for last 6 days and always check this forum's pictures of others and imagine myself in that car...

and... they destroyed my dream...

But... I want that colour so badly....

I am wondering... Do you think It is right to ask to renting a car for 3 ~6 weeks (for free) until my car arrived canada?

I need a car to go to work... immediately.... but I am not sure if it is reasonable for insisting for rentals of car for 3~6weeks for free...

I want to hear opinions of others...
Again, this is my first time buying car so I don't know much about negotiation stuff...

Call another dealer. My dealer drove from St. Louis to Chicago to pick up the car in my color choice and options. I wouldn't think that color is that rare.

what were you driving before signing? Did they take your trade in? tell them to give you one of their used cars till yours comes in or you will cancel....demand more...be willing to accept less

If u signed a contract and they couldn't get what u signed for, I would ask/demand for a rental! I hear ya with the sleeping tho lol happens to me all the time when I've got something coming to me the next day or 2 lol I'm just glad that the day I went to the dealership, I drove my Koup home so I didn't have to deal with that :)

Same thing happened to me when I ordered my Black Koup. I was told at the day of the purchase that I would have the car within 4-5 days. I get a call on the 4th day telling me there are no black Koups left in Canada and it will be 2 weeks until some arrive. I was annoyed but it was worth the wait.

And I honestly don't think it's Kia to be disappointed with, I think its careless dealers that don't check inventory before selling which is not a good idea

The only colour I wanted was white. I wouldn't have bought the Koup if I couldn't have it in white. The Dealer/Salesperson tried to talk me into a car that was in inventory on the lot. They told me it was a 3 month wait for a white Koup. I said, "Okay, here's my deposit. Call me when it arrives." Three days later they managed to 'find' a white Koup.

KoupEE: that's a story of just absolute bullish** on the dealers part. I can't stand that! They probably had plenty of white koups and just lie outta their ass to make more money on a sale of another car. Truly hate dealerships that do that, which is most.

I don't see anything wrong with asking for a rental. That is the very least they can do for you. Having you wait so long. So your gonna make your first payment without even having a car. Yeah they better give you a rental and a freakin gas card. . ..3-6 Weeks. Someone was smokin weed in the break room.

Asosman87 I feel for ya. . .Hang in there.

@KoupEE, i was told the same thing by one dealership(no white EX's in Canada with sunroof), so i gave the salesman my second choice of colour, then phoned up another dealership and found a white one AND that they'd get me into a white SX!.......so i dropped the original dealer like a tonne of bricks. they're HOPING i'd stupidly believe them so I can help get inventory off their lot.........i don't have words to describe how PISSED I was when I found out there was an EX at another dealer).....it's ok, i haven't seen the fucking wiener of a salesman around the original dealer in the few times I've been back there. he got what he deserved maybe. i dunno why this shit happens so much, it's a big risk for them if people discover there are more options than just one dealer......be a smart consumer and check EVERY last option.

as far as your situation(OP), if you have turned your car in to the dealer it'd be courtesy for them to give you a rental. if you haven't, then obviously, keep it til the car apparently gets here from Korea. what dealership you dealing with?

Walk away, get outta there. Tear the contract up, start over. Unless there is a vin number on the contract all you signed for was to be a free bank for the dealer with your money. It happens all the time. You are partially to blame for trusting a dealer without anything to show for it.

Would you buy a $200 ipod off craigslist if the guy didn't have it and said "Give me your money, I'll find you one?" Then why would you do it with $20,000?

Kia dealers here can not order out if the factory. They get what kia delivers to them. Sometimes they get a shipping list a week before they arrive. Most of the time they hear a truck is coming the next day, and they have no idea what is on it.

You have to remember, even with honest sales people, a dealer is concerned about one thing: getting the most money out of you. Why would you let them string you along? They are just trying to hold on to you long enough to get your money. They are concerned and afraid once you are wise to the issue you will walk and they will lose the sale. They will say anything they can to keep you blindly following them.

Time be your own car buying service. You dictate what you want, when you want it, and for what price. If they can't deliver, then move on. Sometimes dealers pull stuff out magically when you leave the parking lot. You never know! You have allowed them to be lazy with this deal and have convinced them you are on their time and they can use your money however they please. Wait for the car you want, Kia inventory creates a challenging hunt but it can be done. Just don't sign anything till you actually see it.

My parents got me mine as a surprise for graduation/my 17th birthday. We were supposed to be going to "test drive" a few different cars. The Koup being the first on my list. We get to the dealership and i see a koup in the colour i wanted. I sit down in it and am checking it out and all of a sudden my dad comes up to me and asks me if I liked it. I responded with an obvious yes and then he proceeded to tell me "Well it's yours" i drove it out of the show room and the rest is history <3 lol I love it. You may have to wait a while but you will be more than satisfied when it finally comes in :)

i just got my car this pass saturday

i originally wanted a black koup sx

just when i signed contract and such..2 days later called me saying they couldn't located it because it was all sold out (the way i want it)
then silver was the next choice...i got my silver koup the way i want it
and i LOVE IT...actually a better choice than the black

dirty/scratch reasons and simply almost any wheels you buy would match the silver LOL

my car is the last of the one i want in the whole east coast

oakville kia was who I dealt with(hooked me up)......I'm sure it's not uncommon for ANY car dealership to do this sort of thing, but there needs to be some sort of accountability with Kia Canada and these crooked salespeople. salesmen ALREADY have a shitty reputation to begin with. this just helps re-inforce the bullshit that goes on(that people are afraid of happening to them)......maybe it's worth gettin on the soapbox and sending an email to Kia Canada(or whoever) about these crooked ****

What is the deal in Canada? Is there a shortage of cars?

I always buy out of inventory by checking the dealers who are reasonably close by. That way I can almost always find what I want somewhere and it can be serviced locally afterwards.

The worst time I had to deal with was when I ordered a car from Ford and I didn't think it would ever show up. Eventually it did but it must have been put together on a Monday as several things were broken, such as the speedometer, the alignment, the decals and other things. If a person buys a car out of inventory, you can look it over and see if it is right before taking delivery.

I never rely on promises from a car dealer. Never. They will tell you the moon is made out of green cheese to make a sale.

BTW, you should never buy a car when you feel "I gotta have this car or I'm gonna die." I guess I'm jaded. I forget that I bought a new car about one mile down the road. It is purely a financial transaction and like buying an appliance anymore. I figure out what I'm looking for and crunch the numbers and then go in and let the dealer negotiate with himself. I never, never, never, never, make an offer. Once anyone puts a number down it is only going to go up. If a person doesn't put a number down in front of the dealer, the price will keep going down. At some point I will stick out my arm and say "twist it." Then the deal is done.
