Ignition replacement (Kia Boys) how to

2023 Kia Forte LXS 4 door with KeyFob. The only thing broken is the ignition switch. No broken wires, Nothing else loose except for the white bottom cover retaining clip. Mechanics want $1,000 to replace. I'm a college student and I dont have that kind of money. I do most all repairs on my own cars. I have found YouTube videos and the replacement looks pretty straight forward and fairly easy. One of the YT videos is called "How to replace 2020 Kia Optima key ignition switch replacement.( For Stolen Kia's)". - Post wont let me insert the link :(

Do I just call a kia dealer and ask for the "iginition switch that will work my keyfob"? or is there more to it than that? In that video he has an ignition that came with a key. I would prefer one that works with my keyfob, but if that price is too much I wouldn't mind a standard/different key.

I've attached a picture of what my jacked up switch looks like.

Thanks in advance!
Kaylie

You can buy oem/factory from your local Kia/Hyundai dealership. Prices will vary.

Since yours is a new 2023 Kia Forte, see your dealer if under warranty. Not your fault for Kia Boyz copy cats tried to GTA.

You can have oem/factory alarms installed. Prices vary & expensive on level or type of alarm options available.

You can visit your local automotive alarm specialist for alarm installation. Prices & options will vary. Ask & get in writing from dealership it's OK/acceptable for aftermarket (non oem/factory) alarm equipment/modding is accepted. This can avoid warranty if your vehicle is still under warranty.

You can install your own alarm. If you do, you may void warranty if vehicle is still under warranty/terms & or conditions. Check with dealership & your vehicles documentation/papers clauses, stipulations, terms & or conditions.

You can buy your own alarm that you like & visit your trustworthy reputable automotive alarm specialist & have them instal the system for you should you decide it's too hard, not enough time, or don't want to short/break cause an electrical gremlins to come out.

I bought & installed an aftermarket push start alarm system in my 2010 Koup. I have a post on that. The system is from JDi. It's a Ghost Key system. JordanDistributors.com

After the warranty time period, one can do whatever they want to their vehicle. Though, should something go wrong, the manufacturer & or dealership aren't responsible, obligated or have to anything to fix your vehicle.

Hope this helps.

Additionally, to prevent further break ins, consider de-badging your car to disguise that it is a Kia. Your Kia emblems are glued on. My dealership took mine off for $67.

Oh, if you do decide to go push start aftermarket & or OEM, if your old key Ignition switch is still good & operational, keep it.
Just in case you need to revert back to key.

Thank you for the info. It took me about 15 min to take off the old switch. Local dealer wants $535 for the key cylinder and its on back order from Korea. Saying 3 -6 weeks. I'm debating to just attempt the push-to-start but their website only shows up to 2021. Going to check some wrecking yards too. I'd appreciate any ideas that anyone has and thank you so much for the help so far!

Were you able to get it to go to push start or what did you do to fix the issue ?

Any ideas on how to replace a ignition lock cylinder when some idiot neighbor kids completely wrecked it? It will not budge an inch. Wheel lock doesn't appear to be in place as it can move, but the lock itself s not movable to get to the accessory option to remove what's left of it and replace. 2013 Kia Forte
