I would like to share how to do a big brake upgrade using Hyundai OEM parts.
I found the brakes too awful on the 2nd gen Forte so I looked into this and found this mod on Korean sites..
Lot of auto mechanic shops in Korea do this mod on the forte or K3.
They call this "National Brake", it is done very common.
And cost effective, you don't need to spend tons of money getting brembos or 4 piston caliper brakes to increase braking capability.
I did it and results are excellent.
I even read on some posts on this Forte forums some people claiming it's useless to have big brakes for street application and I totally disagree.
I think the brakes that come with this car are lacking in performance and undersized. It is barely adequate.
With 4 adults this car doesn't stop well to the point where I found it dangerous.
Now after upgrading my brakes to this the car is easier to drive and even with 4 people I don't even feel the extra load when braking.
Also you will get lot of modded Civic drivers staring at your brakes.
Here it is before and after pictures.

I have listed comprehensive XG2P brake mods for the front for all 3 generations of Forte keeping 17", 16" wheels.
I have personally done mod A so I can confirm mod A works.
*** The other mods I did not actually perform them personally so I am just giving you the information. Please use your judgement.
A. MOD FOR 2nd Generation YD (2014-2018) for 17"+ wheels, 320 mm (12.6") disc, 12 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
AND
B. MOD FOR 3rd Generation BD (2019-2021) for 17"+ wheels, 320 mm (12.6") disc, 12 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
C. MOD FOR 1st Generation TD (2010-2013) for 17"+ wheels, 315~317 mm (12.5") disc, 12 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
16" wheel + mods
(if you want to keep your 16" wheels do this mod. - REQUIRES MINIMUM OF 16" wheels)
================================
D. MOD FOR 1st Generation TD (2010-2013) for 16"+ wheels, 300 mm (12") disc, 11 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
E. MOD FOR 2nd Generation YD (2014-2018) for 16"+ wheels, 300 mm (12") disc, 11 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
F. MOD FOR 3rd Generation BD (2019-2021) for 16"+ wheels, 305 mm (12") disc, 11 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
G. MOD FOR 15" wheels
I have seen other vehicles w/ the same XG2P mod. Here is an example.
===================================

There is also another mod I am seeing it has to do with using a larger 1 piston caliper that is also Hyundai OEM but it's not that popular.
REAR BRAKES ARE ALL 262 mm in diameter.

THIS POST WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED for the 2nd gen 17" wheel brake mod but it looked like other members wanted info on 1st and 3rd gen as well along with brake mods for keeping 15" and 16" wheel so I am posting what info I could find here.
Good luck.

Mando is the OEM brake manufacturer for Hyundai / Kia.
Hyundai caliper will cost ~$260 per caliper.
If you were on a budget you can forgo getting the part from Hyundai and buy a
Mando caliper. It's the same caliper without the Hyundai packaging.
Search for these google it / ebay it
(I saw them in the $50-$80 ranges)

- Front Discs (320mm = 12.6")
need discs i think from 2012 Hyundai Azera
Koreans call this the GDI 320 mm disc....
*** DO NOT USE the discs from XG350 they are smaller I think they are 300 mm~ (12").
From my research I read that from 2006 Hyundai / Kia cars they increased the spacing on the knuckle to the caliper mount so you can use bigger size discs.
This is why you can put a 320 mm disc on a caliper originally designed for 12" (300 mm) disc.
The XG350 12 inch discs (DO NOT GET THESE)
You will need these below.
Hyundai / Kia Part No. (They are the same part, just giving you reference for both Hyundai / Kia Part No.)
51712-2T000 Hyundai (click link to see)
51712-2T000 Kia (click link to see)
You will need 2X discs.
Note - These parts fit multiple cars not just the 2012 Azera.
You can use the Hyundai / Kia discs, or aftermarket disc of your choice.
I used EBC GD7645 - if you don't like brake noise try a different model,
these make unique grinding / (rattle snake) noise on braking and just at cruising.
I don't mind the noise, you can only hear them with windows down not when windows are closed.
I think just the EBC GD series have this noise as I found the similar findings on posts on other websites.
Good thing with EBC brakes they are 100% made in USA / UK. (cast / machined)
It took me long time to filter out Chinese brakes.
Lot of aftermarket brake companies claim their discs are made in USA but the discs are mostly casted in China but machined in US.
I just emailed them and asked where their brakes were made.
Please careful when choosing aftermarket discs.
- Front Brake Hose
No need to replace. The stock brake hose fits the calipers, you need to mount it reversed from the stock brake calipers.
you will see when you get to connecting it, it doesn't fit in the same orientation.
The brake hose should connect in the SAME ORIENTATION as stock; however on the new XG 2P caliper you will see the holder is reversed.
disregard the holder shape. Fit it reversed on the caliper keeping same brake hose position as before on the STOCK Forte caliper.
*** You need to careful at this step not to damage the brake hose mount when mounting on the caliper.
- Front Brake Pads
Find a brake pad of your choice - For 2005 XG350 Front applications.
You can get aftermarket or stick with stock brake pads.

58101-39A60 (just for reference -> different site - click link to see)
I used PowerStop Z23-1013 pads
- Need DOT4 brake fluid and you need to know how to bleed the brake line after install.
I used Valvoline DOT4 full synthetic brake fluid.
- Check clearance of the dust/splash guard. I had slight rubbing, i slightly bent it out of the way now no rubbing.
*** YOU WILL NEED 17" WHEELS MINIMUM TO CLEAR THE BIG CALIPERS / DISCS
*** If you have 15 / 16 inch wheels DO NOT DO THIS MOD without preparing 17 inch wheel tires that fit.
(from what I know they will clear all 17 inch wheels and up)
*** So it will FIT the STOCK 17 inch wheels.
I didn't check if the spare tires fit yet.
*** Reference Below
2nd gen YD (2014-2018)
* 320mm disc, XG2P calipers (12"), 17" wheel and above
================================
THIS MOD IS CONFIRMED BY ME, so I know it works just bolt on swapping.
3rd gen BD (2019-2021)
* 320mm disc, XG2P calipers (12"), 17" wheel and above
================================
this mod should be also straight forward, its exactly same as 2nd gen.
C. MOD FOR 1st Generation TD (2010-2013) for 17"+ wheels, 315~317 mm (12.5") disc, 12 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
[ SAME PARTS AS MOD A, B (please look at the part no's) ]
*** However you NEED to grind down the 51712-2T000
320 mm down to 12.5"
NEED modification to the disc or the calipers.
Some people think modifying the disc is better or some people think modifying the calipers is better
b/c discs are something you have to keep replacing more often not the calipers.
I would mod the disc, I am not sure what the implications on modding the caliper to fit, nor did find any SOLID information on it.
If you use the 320 mm disc just as it is, disc will interfere / rub on the inner side of the caliper.
You must machine the disc down.
The reason why I have 3 sizes 315 / 316 / 317 mm is I am getting variation from different sites,
if you don't have easy access to machining just straight go for 316 mm or 315 mm,
if you have easy access / free machining service near you, I would try out 317 mm and see if it fits and not rub
then 316 mm then 315 mm and so on.
Use your judgment, I have put the links below.
They all vary and use 315 mm, 316 mm, 317 mm.
*** Reference Below
1st gen TD (2010-2013)
* 315 / 316 / 317 mm disc, XG2P calipers (12"), 17" wheel and above
================================
This one below shows you exact part no's they used plus where it will rub if you install 320 mm without modification.
This one below shows you machining the discs down to 317 mm.
There is a video clip.
The shop owner says even shaving down to 317 mm to clear the caliper from rubbing on the disc,
this mod will let you use the pad area to the fullest, so you use the pad area 100% effectively.

D. MOD FOR 1st Generation TD (2010-2013) for 16"+ wheels, 300 mm (12") disc, 11 inch Hyundai XG 2 Piston calipers
- Need 11" 2 piston calipers from earlier year models of Hyundai XG.
The Korean sites still call this X2GP mod, so there is some confusion.
They don't specify the size most of the time and call both mods XG2P mod.

*** You can tell 11" caliper from the 12" caliper, 11" has more curb on the caliper near the center. the 12" is straighter
- you will need a 300 mm disc
(*** I am not 100% sure which part it is exactly b/c I searched endlessly and there was nothing on Korean sites about the part no. but its definitely 300 mm)
I think it's the stock ones that came with SX trims.
If your 1st gen came w/a 300 mm disc,
I think you should try this mod with your stock 300 mm brake discs w/ the 11" XG 2P calipers.
Reasons and Reference Below.- Because the height and thickness is exactly same as the 320 mm discs (used for the 17" wheel brake mod) which is 28 mm / 47.4 MM respectively.
This is the spec for the 320 mm disc
Height 47.2 mm Minimum thickness 26.4 mm Outer diameter 320 mm Thickness 28 mm
51712-2T000 320 mm disc specs (I looked up 2012 Hyundai Azera)
This is the 300 mm / 12" ("16 inch brakes") disc specs.
https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and...rotor/p/duralast-brake-rotor-31427/900959_0_0
- And the center (inner diameter) is small enough to clear the 11" XG2P calipers.
153.5 mm (1st gen Forte SX) vs 155.9 mm (2002 XG)
- FOR REFERENCE: The 1st / 2nd gen Forte's had same rotors up front.
Fronts came in
1. 280 mm ("15 inch brakes") like my 2017 Forte LX
2. 300 mm ("16 inch brakes") SX
depending on the vehicle trim.

- Because the height and thickness is exactly same as the 320 mm discs (used for the 17" wheel brake mod) which is 28 mm / 47.4 MM respectively.
===> So to summarize my advice is
- Get the smaller 11" XG2P calipers
- Use the stock 300 mm discs that came w/ 1st gen Fortes on the SX.
Part No. 51712-1M500 - Get the brake pads for 11" XG2P calipers

I see a blog specifying exactly 300mm and the 11" XG2P so I am confident it will work.

It looks like everyone there is going for the 17" wheel brake mod.
*** If you want to keep 16" wheel and just upgrade the calipers, I think it will be the same as the 1st gen. Since they use the same parts.
===> If you were to do this mod, my advice is

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH INFO ON THE 3rd gen for 16" brake mod.
SO I DON'T HAVE ANY INFORMATION FOR YOU TO DO THIS ONE.
Also the rotors I think I read somewhere that it's 305 mm so I can't recommend to try this out
===> I don't know if the calipers won't rub on them.
G. MOD FOR 15" wheels
I WILL NOT DO A 15" mod b/c I don't think there is one.... except upgrading to aftermarket performance rotors / pads.
Even that will improve it but not to the point of upgrading to 2 piston and enlarging the disc size.
I have seen other vehicles w/ the same XG2P mod. Here is an example.

2nd gen / 3rd gen uses part no.
262 mm diameter
167 mm inner diameter
45.1 mm height
10.0 mm thickness
Same outer diameter but different in spec.
I don't have much suggestion for the rear but to upgrade it to a more performant disc / pads.
Note: EBC do not make discs for the 2nd 3rd gen. Not sure about 1st gen.
THIS POST WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED for the 2nd gen 17" wheel brake mod but it looked like other members wanted info on 1st and 3rd gen as well along with brake mods for keeping 15" and 16" wheel so I am posting what info I could find here.
