is there a way to control my music trough my Ipod ?

my question is, do the names of the songs come up on the stereo display when you use the actual cord for the car, i heard that it didn't display the song names, or it came up as some kind of jumbled name... i'm just using a regular auxiliary wire because i've been undecided on buying the cord for that reason. aaaand can i access my playlists and such through the stereo with the cord? :/
